What is the the most flat shooting cartridge yall can think of?

So as the .270 Gibbs. When it is time to re-barrel my .270 AI, I might do a .270 Gibbs or another .27 cal wildcat. I have a .30 Gibbs and propels the 190 Berger VLDs at 2806 FPS with powders I already have opened (not necessarily ideal) with more room to spare.

The 240 Gibbs has long intrigued me

This begs the question: How fast can you run them before they slide past the rifling and lose what precision they might have?
I wonder what a barrel with the correct twist rate for the lighter bullet would do for them? Say a winmag or a rum with a 14 twist. It'd be a one trick pony at thst point but it would be fast.

Just thinking out loud; if you are a hand loader you can "really" make a .257 Wby Mag scream, would most of you .257 Wby Mag shooters agree? From all the calibers I've owned over the years this also seemed to be the case when I was trying to get a flat shooting cartridge to "really" move out, the .257 Wby Mag always seemed to be the best one out too around 500 yards, with an easy to carry hunting rifle, weight and recoil wise. Just my 0.2 Cheers

I have a great shooting load for my 257 Weatherby Vangaurd I won on $10 raffle ticket with RL26 and Barnes 100 gr. TTSX at 3664 fps. 26 in. barrel. No pressure. 101 LRX almost same. H1000 shot almost as good but 100 fps slower. Going to try Hammer 95 gr. Tipped with same load soon. Hope get same accuracy and I'm sure more fps.

That's cookin! I could only get the 100 tsx to 3500 or so with imr 7828 in my 24 inch.

But I was able to get the 100 Nosler ballistic tip to 3700, again with 7828.

75 grain hammer to 4150 with rl17.

Got some Berger 115s I haven't experimented with and may never use, might just save the precious barrel life haha

I have a bunch of 25 cal. bullets want to try. 115 ELDX. 110 Accubond. 100 Nosler BT. Hornady 117 SST and Interlock. Speer 120 SBT. Next is the 95 gr. Hammer HT. The only other 25 cal. I have is a 25 Bullberry Contender rifle barrel. A 30-30 case necked down to 25 cal with AI shoulder. It loves Speer 100 gr. SBT. Integral break 21 in. Barrel. Recoil less then a 223.

I always said if I built a quarter bore it would be a 257 Weatherby. The speeds y'all are posting is really making me want to do it again. What about a 257 weatherby AI ? I never have liked that double radius.

A past friend of mine improved a couple of the big Weatherby cases and man did they come alive.

A few decades ago, I did a 25-7mmRM, so I did not have to deal with the double radius shoulder. Like you, I did not care for that shoulder profile, and I had a plentiful supply and free sources for 7mmRM brass.

I always sized my 7 rem mag on shoulder. I'm confused with the 257 Weatherby. My first radius shoulder cartridge. Do I size to belt or try to do to radiused shoulder ? 🙄
