Re: What is the best .33 caliber precision long range hunting round??? Remington 700
.338 Edge = ~113gr H2O case capacity, max velocity w/ 300gr berger = ~2713fps at 63000 psia SAAMI
.338 RUM = ~110gr H2O case capacity, max velocity w/ 300gr berger = ~2671fps at 63000 psig SAAMI
.338 Lapua Mag = ~108gr H2O case capacity, max velocity w/ 300gr berger = 2735fps at 68000 psig CIP
This is using QuickLoad inputs so they can change based on your load and real-life data. RUM has 63800psig max pressure per SAAMI while Lapua has 68168 psig max pressure rating by CIP.
Lapua brass is much stronger, will last longer, isn't rebated like the RUM which I've read is more reliable but.....the brass and rounds are about 4x the cost of the RUM but I have no idea if you will get 4x the life on the brass.
I'd go with the .338 RUM for ease of access to cartridges, 300 Edge if you load your own or 338 LM if you want more velocity, potentially reliability and the best 338 out there.
Personally, I was thinking of going for the 338 Edge or Rum because I'm cheap, but now I think I'm keeping my 338 Win Mag and getting a 375 CheyTac.
