What factory 7mm-08 rifle would you choose?

I've got a touch of that gun fever again and am kind of wanting a 7mm-08. I'd like a 24" (#2 or medium sporter contour or whatever size comes on the typical Rem 700 ADL/BDL) and a decent stock. I've always liked the feel of a HS Precision but never had one. I wish Hogue would make a copy of their design in a quality fiberglass without the rubber overmold.

I've got a few Remington 700 and really like them but wondering if the magazine box length in a short action 700 will be too short to hold some of the best BC 7mm bullets? I'd probably start out trying the 162 ELD-X or 165 Sierra Gamechanger but would like a magazine box that could accommodate something like the Berger VLD's around this weight, if possible?

You are doing exactly what I do. Being in Michigan I run into the same thing. I practice with small stuff but it really helps when I'm in texas I can roll out the big boys and be pretty successful.
I do a 6.5 grendel and creedmore mostly.
But am leaning heavily towards a 6br. Or if making one going 30br. Those two are very hard to beat.

You are going to have a tough time finding a 7mm-08 factory rifle with a 24" barrel. They are almost always 22" or shorter. Remington has a model 7 with an hs prec. Stock in 7mm-08 thats nice. Also the christensen arms mesa is a nice light accurate hunting rifle.

May be worth it to get a short action 308 or 243 from a gunshop pawn, whatever and build it 24" 1-8.5 twist so you can shoot those better bc bullets. I think most factory offerings are straight 1-9 or 1-9.25. Its just a thought. Thats what I did. Worked out great and didnt cost alot to put a tack driver together.

I used my 6.5 Grendel this year as my primary deer rifle. Shot 4 deer with it, all around 150 yard. Unbelievable rifle for deer. Every deer died within 30 yards of the impact. Gun shoots .5" groups and weight 6lbs scoped. It's a dream to shoot and load for and the 123 ELDM bullets performed like a game bullet on all deer. I have a picture of one and they all looked identical. No exits, but bullets found in the hide on the opposite side. I have a Rem 700 7/08. I shoot the 150 grain Swift Scirracoo bullets with it. I feel the 162 grain bullets are a bit heavy for the cartridge. I have a couple 284s so they are what I shoot the 162-175s in. The 7/08 is perfect for 140-150s IMO. Rem 700 is a great rifle for the 7/08
