Before Montec broad heads were first available a friend of mine gave me a dozen to try out from a friend of his that owned the Company.....they shot very good out of my Mathews Bow....I also liked they were three blade you could sharpen your self....
Thats were the likes stopped....shot a very large buck with one and it ended my liking of the broadhead....what happened at less than 20 yards I shot the buck and the broadhead exploded getting very little penetration finding the arrow a short distance away....looking at the broadhead there were no blades any more only the threaded part....I took them off my arrows and used my Snuffers.....
The following year opening day I shot a buck with a bad limp and a large swollen shoulder....it was the buck I shot with the Montec there were pieces of the broadhead in the shoulder.....

Stay with your Muzzy. They go straight and don't deflect. If over bait, you will be elevated with sharp angles. I have tried lots of broadheads, and I have been very pleased with the repeated performance of the muzzy. My buddy uses the Thunder Head and he smokes them as well. I stay away from mechanical and now use the 4 blade muzzy for bear over bait. The Trocar tip seems to be the trick. Don't use a broadhead with a flat cutting blade tip, they seem to deflect.

About any quality broadhead will work fine. I've never killed a bear with a crossbow but I have killed several with my compound. Black bears are not that tough to kill…all of my bear kills with a bow have been with a 1.75" Swhacker…. No bear has went more than 60 yds. Hope you have a great successful hunt and post up some pics along with the story…can't wait to hear it.

I've killed 3 bear, 2 of which are in that size you mentioned with Slick Tricks. Don't know how many whitetails with them... They are my favorite broadhead by far. As stated placement is key with any big game animal but bears lungs sit differntly in the body, they go further back than you would think.

Broadhead questions are like "what bullet" questions.

Everybody has their favorite.
I've been using Magnus Black Hornet Ser-razors with bleeders for deer.
Changing up this year to the Magnus Single Bevel.

For bear I was told go middle, middle, forward 6".

Made my own broad heads from industrial bandsaw blades when I used a longbow....it looked like the Magnus single bevel weighed 140 gr. used it for 40 years until my shoulder injury....
What I really like about the Magnus single bevel is the way the cutting edge is only ground on one side also the back of the head is sharpened so the head cut if backed out.....my thought are with a single edge grind you will get better penetration....a Samurai sword is sharpened the same giving superior cutting action....

I personally think it's easier to get pass through shots on bear than whitetail. The ribs on bear are smaller and lighter than whitetail ribs. The fat and fur make blood trails lighter,however.
That being said, I've hunted and shot competition since 1971. I have tried a lot of broadheads. I do prefer fixed blade because they are more durable. Thunderheads are great broadheads and for years I always seemed to gravitate back to them. Slick tricks have been my go to the last 8 years. Muzzy Trocar are also fantastic. Montec fly great,can be resharpened easily, but don't leave much for blood trails. Shoot a Montec through a piece of free hanging cardboard then shoot a slick trick or Thunderhead and compare holes. The Montec leaves such a clean hole,you will have to look twice to see it. Great penitration,but seals right back up. This guy fell to a Muzzy Trocar, complete pass through @60 lbs.

One of the thickest steels for blades is on a Steel force phat head.Ive shot them threw shoulder blade of a 7'plus black bear and taken most of my elk with them.One I shot threw the shoulder blade, my son shot one threw blade with a Montec.This was with 70#plus
