Went to the gun show this weekend not.loohing good any time soon!

I went to the gun show here in GA and it's not going to get better for May be the next four years . There was lots of ammo that was super high .Its funny it depends how popular a round is to how high it is .
Take 338 win mag it was like $45 before this it's about $65 now that's enough increase .Then look at 45 colt it was $25 for 50 now it's $200 for 50 .The regular old 3030 3006 and 270 that was $20 is now $60 a box of 20.Your regular box of 22 bulk pack that was $20 is now $125.
The more popular it is the higher it went .Its crazy and these gun shows and gunbroker are making the prices go shy high .These people have runners that get ammo in stores all over and have bots on their phones to buy out suppliers in 5 seconds some times .Thats why you can't get anything they are hording it and driving up the prices . Dang 9 mm new whole sale for 50 fmj is $99.99 and will be $200 at the store .Guns were crazy too ruger Americans were $600.Ar 15 were $1000 and more .The scary part there were tons of gang members buying tons of ammo and getting their girl friends to buy guns for them . It really hurts us with these prices . There is no way to go dove hunting any more or prarrie dog hunting or target shoot all day long .I bought three things at the gun show only bargins besides a win model 70 458 in perfict shape $950 and a browing eclipse 270 with a boss for $700 .I don't see normal comimg back .I am buying lead a bunch of it to cast bullets to be able to shoot any .I am not shooting up my jackets bullets .One guy there is buying blank 223 to cut down to make 300 black out dangerous it's loaded .I like swap meets between people best that way no high prices would like to see more here this is the best shooting forum I am on .
If no one buys the ammo they will have to eat their losses sooner or later. That's what I am doing. I am making the conscious choice to NOT BUY ANY MORE AMMO FROM ANYONE AT ANY PRICE UNTIL THINGS GO BACK TO WHAT THEY WERE PRE-2020! I know it's not an easy thing to do and I confess I do have an ammo stash so I am not hurting very much right now. It does however prevent me from making gun purchases in any caliber that I do not currently have ammunition in storage for.

I had been buying ammunition for the past 2-3 years. Whenever it went on special I would buy a case or two so that I could maximize the benefit of a rebate and then store the ammo in air tight metal boxes with silica gel packs inside to keep everything dry. I had planned to use the ammo for practice at the range and for light hunting but then covid hit and my local range closed up for about 4 months. Moreover, the persons I had planned to go hunt with suddenly dropped off the radar and I heard nothing from them for months. So the ammo sits in my closet unused. You might say I became an ammo hoarder quite by accident but not by design.

Most of these powders are imported anyways, so one country having a crisis is not going to change a world wide industry. It will come back to normal when people stop panic buying.
This is the inherent danger; lead mines closing under Obama forcing importation of reclaimed lead - a way to choke off boolit manufacturing. Biden would be able to cut off Australian made powders in the same way that Russian primers were cut off. Political semantics aside, if it is "allowed" for import, it can become "disallowed".

I think the OP was saying the seller was buying 223/556 Blank rounds and cutting them down, probably fine assuming that Blanks use the same case as a normal loaded round, would absolutely be concerning if the case has a different case head/wall thickness though.
If that's the case, I wouldn't buy anyone's converted sketchy 300BLK rounds ever?! I like my face and body parts just the way they are.

Somebody once said, "Never let a good crisis go to waste." This is price gouging, plain and simple. Situations like this always create new opportunities for the creative minded. For me also, it has pushed me to rekindle my interest in bullet casting. To borrow a term I saw on castboolits.com, I now call them "freedom pills". Lead and lead alloys are dirt cheap, and with a little practice, one can make excellent, accurate handgun projectiles for practice and hunting. Low velocity cast rifle bullets for the larger calibers (.30 and up) also work very well under 150 yards which is perfect for "woods" hunting. Powder goes a lot farther with cast rifle loads and pressures are also lower, in the 35K range. I feel safe using pistol primers in these loads, but make your own decisions regarding safety. Our ancestors nearly wiped out the buffalo herds using the 45-70 with black powder cast bullets, so maybe we can also learn to adapt. If we let that stuff sit on the shelf the scalpers will wither and die. That's my plan.

Make no mistake. The socialists control congress and the whitehouse. They intend to disarm us and install a socialist dictatorship.
I dont doubt their intentions, I dont like that they hold the power positions. But it's this kind of "sky is falling" talk that's driving the kind of hoarding, high prices, and panic. We've survived these kind of regimes before, we can again. Campaign hard in 2022 and vote them out. Campaign harder in 2024.

I'm sure blank = empty = fired 223 rounds.

No you can take crimped blanks and sometimes do stuff with them. It's less than ideal and some may not be workable. Google 223 blank for pictures and you'll see what we are discussing.

Found a good resource

I always felt the decline of the gun shows had to do with one thing.....the Magazine called "Shotgun News". All of the sudden, everyone knew what dealer's cost was and they didn't want to pay over cost or at most 10% over cost. Dealers have to make a profit. They cannot keep their doors open for 10% above cost. I recall hearing many dealers blame the magazine too. Now we have computers to keep us up on prices. It does make it hard on dealers to make enough profit to stay in business. The current problem IS consumer based. So WE ARE the problem!!!!! I maintain that this WILL end. Maybe it will take four years, but I feel pretty confident we will see a bit more normalcy by sometime this summer. Right now, if you don't need it, don't buy to hoard it. If you aren't going to use it, don't buy it to sell to someone at an inflated price. I have been in the firearms business for years. I have been a buyer for a sporting goods store. I currently buy and sell guns and ammo where I work. I have first chance at everything. For my own use, I have bought three boxes of ammo since January. I bought a gun in December. It is chambered for 8mm Steyr. I bought two boxes of ammo. I bought a Marlin quite a while ago, and I bought one box of 32 Remington for it. I am not hoarding even though I could. I ask that you try to set an example for others. If you do, the current problems will go away sooner.
