Weatherby Mark V Ultralite Accuracy

Listen to jfseaman and wildcatter both are spot on. I have had an older weatherby vanguard VGX in 270 wby mag years ago and like what was mentioned I needed to go lighter than 150s. They shot OK but just ok. When I went to 130,s it was lights out accurate. Better than me. 7828 was magic using 130s of various designs. And push it fast. Max loads performed way better than being backed off a couple grains.

Go shoot some 140s of various brands and types and come back. I bet it will be a different story. If not then I would say check into the new barrel.

But seriously shoot those lighter bullets.

Best of luck

Thanks all for the great advice. I am going to try bullet weights from 150's down to 130's and see what it will do. If it doesn't do the trick, I will be back asking about re-barrel suggestions.

Thanks again.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have tried all the standard accuracy issue fixes, bedding screw torque; scope mounts (I have a Swarovski on it with Talley mounts-all tight); tried working up loads and experimented wth bullet seating depth. All no go.

I have not tried bullets weighing less that 160 grains, as this was to be my elk riffle. I will give the 140's a try, though.

It sounds like some have had good success with rebarreling. Any suggestions as to barrel maker and a gunsmith that works on Weatherby's?

Thanks again for all the good thoughts.

I like Bartlein, Rock Creek, Proof Research, Brux, Hart, and Krieger.
