Weatherby Mark V Action Quality Ranking

Hello Mntwrunner. The Weatherby MKV action is an excellent action to build on depending on what you want to build. I like them for the big Weatherby cartridges. As soon as Weatherby released the 338-378 i had to have one. This is one I have been building for some time.

morning, I just received my 7mmWBee. 28" Hart bbl. straight contour, SS

#7 contour. I put a H&S tactical stock, the stock was special ordered from

stocky's, the special order was for a West German action. Nikon Monarch

scope. the trigger is very good. is it the rifle pretty

no! the build is extremely rugged. I was told by my smithy that

ur older wbee's do not need a lot of machine work. I can see why by

looking at the action and the original maker. lightbulbgun)

I'll say this for the action, I love the way the bolt slides out with a trigger release. Easy Peezy.

I own a P17 which has an older version of the mauser auction, I prefer the Weatherby! Never had an issue with my P17 through even though it is 100 years old, killed many critters with it. My father had a custom stock made for it and it's a beauty, this is it.

Hey Edmhunter. Why you worried about actions? You said you can hit the centre of a pie plate offhand at 500 yards 4 out of 5 times. Actions never mattered to Annie Oakley and you are the best female shot I know of, so why worry?

just country How much does it weight with the scope on it?

Randy this is mine: When we glass bedded and free floated mine with the Weatherby/factory 2 contour barrel it was shooting 7"groups @ 200 yards not good! After replacing the Weatherby/factory 2 contour barrel with the Wilson Match Grade 3 contour barrel I am now getting 5" groups at 800 yards.

Total weight with the Huskemaw 5-20x50 Blue Diamond 9 lbs. Thinking of changing the trigger next as I prefer 1 ½ lbs and I cannot get that with the current Weatherby trigger.

Here are a couple of photos several years ago with my accumark before I sent it off to get a "woodie." This rifle was originally a 340 weatherby but I could just not get it to shoot better than an inch. So...........I had a new barrel put on it in 300 win mag and it has been awesome. Nice thing about going to a 300 win mag from a 340 is that I can shoot the 215 bergers, seat them long and they will still fit in the magazine.

Nice Mullie Randy! Hope to get drawn this year, booked on a Monster Bull moose hunt in October, can't wait to use my new rifle! :)

Noticed that you have Blue Diamond as well, love mine. Many people told me that Huskemaw's are junk scopes. Pfffffffffff

You can't see it but the barrel ends with a Terminator T2. The Swarovski z5 5-25X52 was replaced with a Bushnell 6500 4 1/2-30X50. In side by side the z5 was about as far behind the 6500 as my right eye is behind my left eye after cataract surgery. The right eye is 20/20 and the left eye is 20/15. Both are very good in low light so neither has an advantage. The 6500 is six ounces heavier than the z5. Maybe in a few years that six ounces will be enough to cause me to get another z5.:)

That sheep is nice. Is that a Mcmillan stock on your Mark V? Looks sweet

The stock is a Lone Wolf, now knows as Proof Research. It started as the lightest one they make at twelve ounces. The Weatherby shape added six ounces. I replaced the heavy Pachmayr with a Hastings Micro-cell 1.26" that weighs 2.9 ounces. The stock now weighs twenty-four ounces.

morning the rifles weight is no cream puff. I have not weighed the rifle. this is a

long range set up. for some reason the 7mmwbee is not popular. the brass has

gone down is price. have not shot the rifle yet! shame on me. thanks for

asking.i am going to Okla. soon. will shoot some crows and hopely hogs.

I am a supporter of Barnes TTSX and LRX bullets. I have 3 wbee's.

all r RH, I shoot LH. just me lightbulbgun)

Hello all,

I recently purchased a Weatherby Mark V 300 WM Ultra Lightweight which I had customized by removing the barrel and replacing it with a Wilson Match Grade 3 contour barrel.

My question for those of you that know actions: Would you happen to know how the Weatherby Action on the Mark V ranks in the world of actions?

It is considered a fair, average, good or excellent action in the world of rifle actions? Thanks in advance for your input!

I know this post is almost a year old, But when I came across it I felt compelled to reply.

In My opinion. the Mark 5 is the strongest factory action Made and a very good one for custom builds.

I use a lot of them and for the really big cartridges with Case heads larger than the Magnum case heads, I use them exclusively. They are center feed and the mag box will exceed 4" in length with ease.

For standard size cartridges, I normally use the Remington actions because of need and cost. But with time spent, you can find a good donor for less that $1,000.00 and often as lo as $700.00.
that has everything you will need for a quality build.

J E CUSTOM

I've always been a Weatherby Mark V fan probably since that was my first rifle. I have several custom 700s and a couple Mark Vs and I prefer the Mark Vs on my big game rifles.

Here is my custom 270 Wby, 26" Lilja #5, McMillan stock, tuned trigger and 230" of horn at 560 yards. It started as a 257 Wby Ultralight that never impressed me. This is my favorite deer rifle.
