Was just given a probably early 80's Mark V Weatherby 270 Weatherby Magnum. Now to start working up loads with it. Any recommendations on this caliber would be appreciated. Serial #H122XXX. Probably be a while to source dies. It came with some brass I'll start to work with.

IMR 7828 and your favorite 140-150 grain bullet. Berger 140 classic hunter, or Accubonds would be my first choice. 140's around 3300 and 150's around 3200 fps.

H1000 would also work well if you need a temp insensitive powder, you'll give up about 1000 fps to 7828.

257Tony is spot on.... 140 Accubonds and 7828 are awesome in my factory 1-10"tw. I believe some of the older ones came with 1-12"tw which would work better for 130 class bullets. I believe only the Weatherbys made in Germany came in a 1-12"tw, would have to research it a little to verify.

... or take "actual measurement ...

I use 79gr Reloder 25, Fed 215GM primers, Weatherby brass behind 140 gr Win Failsafe bullets for 3300 fps. Win no longer manufactures the Failsafe FYI. Start 10% lower and work up. I have a 1:10, 26 inch Douglas Premium match grade pipe, Mark V action in a McMillan stock. Have fun!!! JM
