Weatherby .224 Magnum Mark V Varmitmaster.

We constantly send Adam messages on the weatherby nation about making a VM in the sexy sheridan deluxe model they kick out in wy! I can't imagine the waiting list for such a limited run if it were to happen, but i'd dang sure try and get one. Several 224's and even more 22-250, some of my favorite rifles to shoot. And yes any thin barrel deluxe wby will get hot fast, love the watch example and so true. My rifles often look unfired and nothing could be further from the truth - they all shoot well and record many kills.

Don't shoot it, you'll like it and yes ammo and components are higher than a giraffes ***!

Search and be patient is all I can add. I have several and made deals over the years on ammo and components. Maybe weatherby will make more runs but it's still high! Congrats is it a jap/german? 24/26 inches barrel?
German made ser# 53637. I really want to go plinking! ~23" barrel?

Great looking German,

they come in 24 - 26" barrels, 26" is more valuable all things considered equal because there were fewer made. So the collectors grab the 26's up - shooting hard to find something easier to handle than a 24" barrel varmintmaster, points and shoots easy even off hand shots.

I agree and I'm also a Weatherby nut who's left handed. However, if it were mine, she wouldn't be a safe queen. It's only money and when you die it'll go to the highest bidder. Enjoy it while you can.
Amen to that!

I have one in 22/250 with the 24" light contour. It's a joy to carry and shoot!

I know this is a newb question (not a rifle guy) but is .224 Valkyrie compatible? IDK what I'll do with this rifle if I can't shoot the thing, maybe sell. Has any other factory ammo been tried? Appreciate any input.

I'm not quite sure I understand the question…are you asking if you can somehow shoot a .224 Valkyrie cartridge in a .224 weatherby chamber? If so that's a definite "no", they are entirely different cases, same bore diameter but that's it (and same bore diameter as the .223, .22-250, .220 swift, etc… they all shoot .224" diameter projectiles except for the very old and very odd 22 savage hi-power which is a .228" cal)

Thx for the reply sir. I just want to shoot this great little rifle but don't have access to reloading equipment. Is there absolutely no other option than dropping 100 on a rare factory box of ammo?

I'm afraid so. If you don't handload or know someone you'd trust to handload for you then this rifle is indeed special simply by virtue of what it is, a somewhat rare and eminently collectible fine quality rifle in good condition…but unless you're made out of money, if you're wanting to actually go have some fun with the thing and do some recreational plinking on a regular basis without taking out a second mortgage or only shooting 5 or 6 rounds in a session to conserve precious ammo, a rifle like this is about the worst! Not very viable as a fun field and range use rifle, I still would advise hanging onto it though, it is SPECIAL. But probably more of a safe-Queen gun

You are lucky to be living in the States. There are lots of custom reloading places that will make ammo a lot cheaper than buying it. Find some brass, and a custom loader, or take a trip to your local range, many of whom have reloading contacts and I am sure someone can help you with 224 Weatherby ammo.

No Weatherby ammo is cheap, 80 to 100 a box is the normal price, which is why those of use that shoot Weatherby cartridges all reload.
