VX5HD 4-20x52 - Anybody have any experience with this scope?

I do! They are amazing. If I hadn't just switched all my scopes to LRP's in mill this spring, I would be going to this scope. I have always stayed away from the vx5's because of their less than desirable reticle choices. I just put two on customer guns, and got to shoot both. I love the 4-20 power range and the target turret.

Wondering if anybody has one of these and what their thoughts were? I have a couple VX5HD 3-15x56 scopes and absolutely love them. Been debating between a VX6HD 3-18x50 or this 4-20x52. I need new rings anyway, so buying the 34mm isn't that big of a deal to me. I don't really need illumination, but having it never hurts. It will be going on a CA BA tactical in 6.5 prc. Want a leupold because I've decided weight is a factor.

Also, they offer the 4-20x52 with a regular ZL2 low profile turret and a ZL3 target turret. Am looking at the ZL3 target turret model - anybody have any experience with those?

I have been using the VX6 scopes for a few years now several of them and have had zero issues, and will be buying another after the first of the year they track very well and are repeatable do not know about the 5 but I am sure it is a fine scope

I have the VX-5HD 4-20x52 CDS-TZL3 with the TMOA reticle on a Canyon Precision built 28 Nosler. Love the scope a lot more than the Viper PST Gen2 I have on my 338 Edge. I'm sure that doesn't help you, but the 34mm tube allows so much more light through for our North Idaho evening shots.

I have aVX6 mounted on my hunting rifle. Have had it four years now with no touble or issues. I have a MK5 on my LR competition rifle and love it. It is very clear and again ive had no issues. Other guys at the shoots have tried it, compared it with their NightForce and US Optic scopes and can't tell any difference in clarity.

I also have a PST Gen 2 5-25x50. Your input helps:). I am not sure its the 34mm tube as much as it is the quality of the glass itself.

For the money Knight force makes a superior line of scopes!

Yeah, but the weight...I haven't heard of many problems with Leupolds VX6HD and VX5HD lines. In fact I have heard of several people switching from Nightforce to Leupold lately, which blows my mind...

I put a 5-20x52 on a 300 RUM this summer and have put about 150 rounds through it with load work and hunting this fall. Optics seem very clear and dial is accurate and repeatable for long range shooting. Only criticism is the reticle. A wind plex reticle or similar would be much better than a fine duplex. Side be side clarity with my Mark5 is close.

I just ran through the reticle subtensions on a few leupold and NF scopes for my own decision making. Also have been doing a lot of looking through my impact 29, windplex, PR-1moa, and MOAR-T at end of light and beginning.

Reticle thickness subtension
Impact 29 .1
Windplex .2
TMOA .1
PR-1MOA .15
MOAR .125
MOAR-T .0625

As I look for my next purchase and the purpose of my build I think I'm going to take the hit and spring for the illuminated PR-1MOA. The impact 29 with the same reticle thickness as the TMOA do not show up in low light with dark background for me. The windplex is the best for general hunting purposes, especially in low light with dark background and/or target. I really wish they would have just added some elevation into the reticle and not just windage. The MOART is also very fine and washed out with low light but the illumination makes it very easy to use.

I dont know your budget but the illuminated mark 5 would be my choice. I like being able to hold the wind on any power.
Now I'm rethinking which I will order. I was in the process of putting payment info in when i got distracted and hopped over here and read this thread which pulled me in.
I guess I'm talking through my own problems haha
I really do prefer the turret on the mark 5 over the vx series.
The reason I hold back on the vx5 you want is the only reticle offered is the tmoa which also has very small subtensions and I think will also wash out in dark timber on dark animals.
Mark 5 ate the finest on the planet in my opinion vx5 and 6 are as equally awsome

Iam not sure on that one I have talked to Leupold reps many times and they swear the vx5hd and 6hd use the same glass and I have both and cant tell a difference

They do use the same glass - wondering if the 5x vs the 6x erector may have an impact in edge to edge clarity, or maybe just the perception of clarity at highest magnifications?
