v-max for coyotes??

I guess i would have to disagree here. Having killed hundreds of dogs over the years i have learned alot about caliber selection and bullet construction. The v-max would be near the bottom of the list for me. Under 100 yards with large 6mm cases ie. 6mm-06 and the 6-284 and the plain ole 243 those vmax bullets splash pretty bad. Shoulders and hips will flat stop them at least with 58-70 grain bullets. I have had alot better results with nosler bts . I do however like vmax for chucks, and other vermin. The eye candy is pretty sweet.

gun)THATS ALL I SHOOT IS V-MAX. I HAVE TRIED OTHER BRANDS THEY SEEM TO DO TO MUCH DAMAGE ON THE PELTS. I SHOOT 40 GRAIN V- MAX IN MY 22-250 AND MY AR-15. THEY SHOOT VERY WELL AND VERY LITTLE PELT DAMAGE.

I noticed that about the splash effect. I shot a coyote with 87gr V-max at 80 yards in the shoulder with a 6x284. that bullet blew up on the shoulder creating a huge flesh wound but part of the bullet did exit on far side. Poor coyote was rolled over and died.

I have larger caliber rifles but i set two rifles up just for coyotes. Which are quite a bit smaller then 6mm-284 . I know the heaver the bullet the further you can push it. I have alot of land to play with to hunt coyotes and i have played with alot of bullets, and i have the same effects with other bullets that you talk about. Any thing that you shoot in the front shoulder will have big holes. There are bullets out there that they claim better results but they cost alot more. Im not perfesoinall on bullets, i shoot alot and reload alot and for the money it works for me. This bullet thing is personel preferance.

I recently built an AR specifically for coyotes. It's chambered in 6mm WOA. I'm loading 65' v-maxes for it. I've shot coyotes both in the head and right behind the shoulder with no exits. The head shot 1 sounded like he had marbles in his head when I picked him up. The other didn't even look as though he'd been shot. Both were shot within a few yards of 100 and both dropped instantly. I'm very pleased with the load so far.

I've been using 65 gr. V-Max with IMR 4320 in a 243 with good results from chest and lung shots from 50-150 yds. A couple of shoulder shots put them right down but did make abit of a mess. Also 95 gr. Nosler BT's while deer hunting:D Might have to check out the 87 gr. V-Max's. Dave

Are those Coyotes still dead? Have you ever put marbles inside a coyotes head before? How do you know what that would sound like?

I have a very vivid imagination. I guess I could have said that it sounded like his skull was blown to bits and his brain matter was mush, maybe that's more what it sounded like.

I used either 55 or 70 grain Nosler ballistic tip bulets for my 243 and blew apart a yotes stomach at 80 yards.... very messy. I had to drag him out of the woods a good distance.

I want to load 87 grain interbond for yotes just because the 87v-max shoots flat compared to other weights.

When I shoot chucks the 87 v-max enters with a small hole and no exit hole.
That's usaually at 100 yds. or more...

So I'm assuming the v-max will perform the same on coyote.

Thanks for posting. I have a Fox Pro that has a Female invitation call. I'll be hunting in the Ontario area. My retired and buddy bought some land up there. How cold is it? Will thermal s under pants and then bib camos wool socks Fleece pull over and cold weather head gear work?

ontaio is about ten to fifteen degrees warmer then burns. its about 20 degrees here and we got ten two twenty mile winds. but what you mention for warmth shoulgun)d work pretty good.
