Hi everyone,
New here but not to shooting or hunting. I have a 7 rum in a 700BDL engraved that I have no intentions of shooting. I would like to get it barreled to something more realistic when it comes to finding ammo, (without reloading at the moment) less recoil than a rum, and something that would do nicely from a 24" max length barrel. I already have a custom 300 RUM and 338 RUM so looking for something a little different.
Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to LRH, and enjoy! I understand that you are going to use the factory for now. Is there a chambering/caliber gap you are trying to fill?

I should have probably stated I'd like to hunt with it and am kind of particular to 30cal. Will those SAUM run well in the long magnum action?

Not really, Just tired of carrying my 30" Sendero profile 300 RUM but would like to have the same or close to the same performance with a shorter barrel so that I can use it with my cans. 39" is a bit long for anything other than a bench.

They will run fine in an LA. Add 300SAUM to your list in the case of liking the 30s. But they sure won't keep up with a RUM.

Jump on the new band wagon of the 7PRC? Midway has way more 7PRC types in stock than 7RUM if you don't reload.

Someone mentioned mentioned 300PRC and I think i like the idea but I read they need a longer barrel. How short can I leave the barrel without loosing a lot of velocity?

24" 300 PRC will be fine. As fast as a 26"+ barrel, no, but it'll still kill plenty.

I haven't finished setting mine up yet, but I went with a 22" barrel on my 300 PRC. With a 215 berger, I don't think I'll have any problems knocking animals down.

If you're set on a 30 cal, I think the 300 PRC or 300 WM deserve a hard look. 30 Nosler has more case capacity, but hardly any factory ammo and when you find it, it's expensive. Same for the 300 Weatherby.
