Total Shoulder replacement...

Dogz glad to hear your replacement is doing well. Got mine done middle of May and it seems to be doing well. Working on my range of motion with PT but it's still pretty stiff. Good luck to your wife on her sheep tag.

My new joint is doing very well, the biggest challenge for me is a tender shoulder after a round of skeet or a few rounds thru my big guns (now a days my 270, 7 Mashburn Super). I used to do enough shooting that I rarely had a tender shoul
If you haven't tried one of these, they really do help mitigate and spread the recoil out a bit so not direct as much.
PAST shoulder worn recoil pad:

I went to see the Ortho Doc yesterday, 3 months after surgery. X-rays looked good. No loosening of the implant. There is some limit to my range of motion in a couple directions. He told me to continue physical therapy until I don't think it's helping anymore (or the VA quits paying). And the biggest positive is he said no problems shooting a gun!

Tops. Is your shoulder still stiff? I'm at 10 weeks and my shoulder is still stiff. It moves and my range of motion is getting better but it's still stiff.

DEW, my shoulder is still stiff in certain movements. I have some pretty good pain in the shoulder blade too. My range of motion out front and up is pretty good, out to the side not so much and to the rear is not there really. Putting my hand in my pocket takes thought and a little caution. Tucking in a shirt is hard as is threading a belt (I thread the belt before putting on my pants.

I wouldn't worry about the stiffness and soreness for another 3 to 6 months. DEW, you've got a while before it moves like you want. tops911, you need to focus on deltoid strength. If it continues to suffer, consider suggesting a nerve conduction study on your neck and shoulder. I've seen some stuff that makes me say that. And I wouldn't rush reaching behind you, that's the dislocation position for a reverse shoulder.

I've had 5 right shoulder surgeries, and tons of physical therapy, & bolts to hold it together...it basically did not work...a little less pain if I don't use it much...have no upward strength to lift. The last surgeon said "you have a crapy shoulder." And offered pig tissue transplant to bolster the sholder, and clip the biceps tennon to relieve pain. I said no thanks. Cortisone injections mostly do not work, If the injection is a "combo shot" with lidocaine with cortisone it will be somewhat more effective...and take the "neck injection" after surgery to numb the shoulder for about 8 hrs, and ask for morphine tabs for under the tongue for pain relief, along with the ice water pump machine to freeze shoulder., to keep swelling down...then go to physical therapy for a year, 2 or 3 times a week...do all the exercises, religiously... the computerized exercise machines don't lie,...I was losing strength after a certain amount of time after surgery...about 4 to 6 months after... these medical surgery proceedures did not work for me. Maybe you'll have better luck, roll the dice. But I carry around some 12 mm bolts incase I need to repair a vehicle...they looked ridiculously, excessively large in the X-ray, seemed like 6mm or 8 mm would have done the job...must have been a sale on large medical hardware that day.

12-Pound Splitting Maul with 27-inch Steel Handle, some nice White Oak, Ash and Hickory logs to split. Try to split and stack at least1/2 Cord every morning. Aspirin 81mg and black coffee, keep er going, every day, but don't work in the rain.

Good luck to all of you. By my age, my dad had both hips replaced, and lived long enough to wear them out twice.

I worked with a shoulder surgeon for several years and we did many total shoulders. The surgeon I worked for trained under some of the best from the University of Utah, and he was moving away from hemiarthroplasties (partial shoulder replacement). You will do just fine with a total. Most important thing is to keep your rotator cuff and scapular stabilizers strong, limit lifting overhead, and take precautions when lifting heavy things away from your body. Preservation of your rotator cuff strength and shoulder stabilizers is critical to protecting the replacement.

Also nothing wrong with riding it out and getting steroid injections a couple times per year if needed as others have mentioned. I wish you well!

I have more metal in my body than a Chinese pinball machine. I have had surgeons that just do the operation to collect the ins money and to do experiments to advance their "PRATICE". Knees, Hips, Shoulders, Neck, Back
Shots can help greatly but does not cure the issue. Short term fix. Depends on the severity of the Rotator Cuff damage.
If you are having issues and not getting the results you want go and get a SECOND Opinion.. There are a lot of Drs. out there that in a SYSTEM like Piedmont and Emeroy, Northside these large medical Companies take over the system and the private Dr. and Specialist offices.
Leaves you with limited choices. Remember all these hospitals systems are being joined together so that there is no competition,
My arms and legs are controlled by micro motors. Have had two Spinal cord Stimulatirs connected to my brain and neck spinal cord with no good results.
Having a MRI an Xrays in two weeks to determine if they are going to cut open my neck spinal cord again, They may be able to control my movements by a computer like in "UpGrade" Don't really care what they do just as long it relieves the 24/4/365 pain. (and helps me shoot better 🤣 )

I had a resurface in 2005 (60 years)They told me then I would need a replacement,but I would tell them when.
Made it 9years,went back to the Doc. he said "must be time".
Had a standard replacement, did the PT and its good.
Had to quit bow hunting,I could shoot the bow ,but could not practice enough to do justice for the animal!
I lift 3 days per week,Doc said be careful with military press, shoulders don't like to go that direction.
Other than that I can lift, pull, push more than 99 percent of the 78 year old men in the country!
Have to take Meloxicam 15 every day for arthritis other places!
