Top 10 (rifle) hunting cartridges everyone should own

I was more interested in the projectile, but the cartridges selected are interesting as well. I was curious to see if a long range 8mm bullet was available there.

I had to look up Lutz Moeller, interesting read.

I know availability of some bullets here has been very limited lately. Has this craziness affected shooting supplies there?

1. 17 hmr
2. 22 LR
3. 22-250
4. 6 BR/Dasher (on my bucket list)
5. 6.5 SS (also on bucket list)
6. 284 win
7. 7 LRM (and another on bucket list)
8. 30/375 S.I.
9. 338 Lapua
10. 375/408

The 222 rem is also on the bucket list.

As you might have seen, did I try to give a short overview over common 8mm projectiles in a second post replying to your original. In general we do have a very good supply related to 8mms, because the calibre is very popular throughout Europe. We even get high quality 8mms fab -rounds from f. ex. Barnes(Vortex) and Hornady which unfortunately aren't for sale in the US... The only thing missing under an amount of good hunting bullets is that particular one for the purpose of LRH. My hope is if none of the American manufactures will take initiative, that a European will do so. The 8mm is absolutely worth it. Just imagine the powerhouse 8mm RM with a sophisticated LR - bullet. gun)

Here goes...

1. 17 hmr
2. 22 LR
3. 22-250
4. 25 wssm
5. 6.5x284 win
6. 7 RUM
7. 300 RUM
8. 338-378 Weatherby
9. 338 RUM
10. 375 RUM

I know Riley.....Ultra mags are boring!!

Saw this thread today and thought it to be interesting.

1) .22LR bolt rifle for all the reasons mentioned so far.
2) .223 bolt rifle for varmints.
3) 6mm Remington longer range varmints
4) 6mm Dasher - A buddy has a semi-custom 700. Last time I witnessed him miss a chuck with this gun was decades ago.
5) 7mm -08 - one of my favorite deer calibers for shorter ranges
6) 7mm Rem Mag - I just like this one. If I were out west this would be a .300WM or a .338sumpthin'
7) 30-06 another working hunter
8) Henry lever action 44 Mag - My go to 'coyote on the property' gun
9) Smith & Wesson 629 - almost had to take a black bear with mine two weeks ago while deer hunting. I'll plan a hunt next year around this.
10) .22LR Browning BuckMark. Not really a hunting gun but, when I can break the trigger good with this gun, the rest fall into place. Used to be cheep to shoot but now, not so much.

Bonus pick
11) A 12ga Over/under If the guns above don't put anything down, then perhaps a bird in the pot with this.

Bonus pick II
12) a Shiloh Sharps 1874 Buffalo Rifle 45-90 or 45-110. Think "Quigley." 'Cause I want one! Saw new one recently and the fit & finish was magnificent. It's very accurate and not as easy to shoot as I had earlier believed.

22lr Bolt
22-250 Bolt
6.5x284 Norna Bolt
30-06 Bolt
338 Lapua Mag Bolt

Don't need 10. These 5 will do me just fine on anything from squirrels to Brown Bear at any distance I am capable of shooting.

I'll add in my 2 cents....

1) .22LR - bolt or semi-auto gun)
2) .223 - AR/Semi-Auto
3) .22-250 - bolt gun)
4) .243 Win - bolt
5) 7mm Rem Mag - bolt gun)
6) .30-30 - lever-action
7) 300 Win Mag - bolt
8) 338 Raptor (see Kirby Allen's site)/338 Lapua AI - bolt gun)
9) 375 H&H/375 Ruger - bolt
10) .45-70 Gov't - lever-action gun)

So, those are my top 10 picks that I think everyone should own for game on the North American continent or really pretty much anywhere for anything.

My personal top 5 are noted with the shooter smiley.

Good question and quick look at the reloading supplies gives me this list.
#1 22lr and 17HMR, no I don't reload them but there is a pile of shells waiting to be used.
#2 204 and 20PPC great prairie dog rounds
#3 223 AR and a couple of bolt guns, all around good small critter-getter
#4 243 Great little round that has lots of uses
#5 25-06 just because
#6 6.5x55 Sweede and 6.5-284 good rounds to have around
#7 7mag from prairie dogs to elk it just plain works
#8 30-06 because everyone should have one
#9 338 Edge for those really long shots
#10 12ga pump for those close shots

I know this is an old thread but I couldnt help adding my list
#1 17 air rifle
#2 22 lr
#3. 17 hornet
#4. 223 rem

#6 7-08
#7 300 wm
