To Powerstroke.... or not?

We all know what a new one costs.....
You ain't kidding. Our last 2 new ones were right up against 100k...

Depending on your budget--- I'd keep looking, i picked up a 2021 3/4 ton, crewcab, shortbed 4x4 diesel with 38000 mi for 43k --- few and far between but they are out there if you aren't in a hurry to buy

Man, that had a whole lot more miles on it than my '15 3500hd chevy (80,003 as of last night). I'll have it 9 years as of 3/26/16.

I'd pass on a 311k mileage vehicle that would have a potential of major money repair. All though diesels (in most part) have a longer engine life than gas motors ut could last another 300k miles?

For me, I don't want another diesel due to fuel cost and lower fuel mileage than a gas. Help out farmers by NOT buying diesel p/u's!

That's a great truck

No matter what brand, anything with 300k is a gamble. If it was built on Wednesday, safe bet.
On Friday, get ready for major repairs.

Buy it cheap, every month you drive it without a note to pay put 1500 dollars in the bank, you will have a nice repair war chest quickly and 1500 in your pocket every month after that. Fix what breaks and roll on. I would 100% immediately change the CP4 to the upgraded model that DOES NOT use the fuel it's pumping to the injectors as lube. It's not if it will fail, it is when, and the stock garbage unit (exact same pump in a Duramax or Cummins also) will pump it's destruction into the injector lines and injectors and that requires replacement of everything. $2000-2400 pump failure now costs $10-12K. If you live where you can get away with it take some of that war chest money and delete all of the stupid off it also. EGR, DPF, Cats, and enjoy the extra power and fuel economy while you pay far less in repairs over the life of the truck.

Agreed!

@wasskeet New Dcr updated fuel pump is 2k in parts or I would at least put on the cp4 disaster prevention kit for $400 that keeps the failed pump parts out of the fuel rail and injectors.

What is your expected useage? Are you going to put very few miles on it every month or drive the wheels off it?
You planning on frequently pulling a heavy trailer or just like having something capable?
You didnt mention the price, but if you're not going to put a ton of miles on pulling trailers I wouldnt be that scared of it.
Like others have said, diesels can be expensive to own/maintain. I've had several over the years and currently own 2.
Also, I would delete it if that's an option. You'll gain power, mileage AND reliability without the DEF system.
My 09 Dodge 3500 with compound turbos has enormous power but still gets 23 mpg empty.
I'm not a Ford guy, but I've put 216k on a '19 F350 gasser for work. Bump steer is real. For the first 2 sets of tires (Michelin and then Goodyear) every bridge deck and overpass it was hang on. Then I switched to Cooper AT3s and it's 95% gone.
Hope all that rambling helps!
Good luck!

Too many miles for me. Vehicles by us have been dropping especially the used stuff. My opinion would be keep looking. I've had 3 power strokes now. '14, '17, &'21. Really like them. Plenty of Getty up. No issues other than 1 starter. None had more than 40k miles though.
Good luck whatever you decide to do. 👍

If it's cheap enough. I wouldn't worry about it. If you like fords. You couldn't give me one lol. But if it's cheap enough to give you room for repairs then go for it if you like powerstrokes.
