I think you made the right choice. That being said I'll add that on my 10-1/2" Ruger SBH 44 mag I used the Burris mount. It has held up well thru countless hot loads.
belldar…some of us have aged out of iron sights. It's just a thing that happens.

I say drill as well. If you are going to use it, might as well add what you want to make it more user-friendly.
