Tikka T3 308: Favorite Ammo

I'm getting somewhat inconsistent results with my Tikka T3 308 with the long range bullets like the 178 grain ELDx. The barrel twist is 1:11.

What ammo did your Tikka T3 308 like best?

Federal gold medal match. Mine loves the 168s. Was told the 175/8(?) grain shoot just as good, but I've been too happy to try anything else.

My T3 likes anything 150gn and shoots them extremely well. I can dial in very good 165gn class loads but it definitely prefers 150.

I think my blue barrel original T3 prefers 150s as well.

Just got a new t3x Veil Wideland and it shot SGK #2140 165 grains under 1/2" on my seating depth test. It also shoots the SGK 150's very well. Seems the Tikka 's like the bullets in that weight range.

I had a light SS 308. It definitely preferred some bullets to others but weight was all over. 150's 165's and 180's of some make or another all shot well.

With a twist rate of only 1:11, you might have difficulty with the longer, heavier bullets. The 308 Lapua Scenar 155gr ammo might work well, and the bullet has a good BC for 155gr (will stay supersonic to 1000+ yards). I had an 18" barreled rifle in 308 in which they worked well (my twist was 1:10).

Maybe try the 168-grain A-Max (Midway) and CFE-223.

168gr is the winner. Time after time!

Mine likes the 168 a max. I'm looking to try 168 tipped SMKs. 155 factory loaded scenarios were not stellar, but 150 accubonds shot well.

1:11 is too slow for 178gr, a bit too slow for 168's as well but much better. Ideal overall twist is 1:8 to 1:10 .

I have read elsewhere that that 175 gr bullets are optimal for 11" twist barrels. My T3X has shot between 150 and 180 gr bullets successfully. Personally, I wouldn't go any heavier with the 308.

168 Amax shot excellent out of my T3 308. Never tried anything heavier because I didn't see the point in changing things up with such good results.
