Thumbhole stocks

I have one on my 300 RUM. I LOVE IT!! Shoots great and looks fantastic. Ever since I was a young boy (will be 69 in April) I always thought thumbhole stocks were almost as sexy as the cover of that well known men's magazine.
I really love the way I can snuggle up to the rifle when I shoot off hand using the thumbhole stock.
Don't bag on them until you try. I would appreciate not getting torched because of my opinion on this.

When I had my Rem 700 25-06 sported re-barreled into a long ground squirrel rifle done, it made it a more comfortable controllable rifle. Since I wasn't carrying it, it weighs 14 pounds empty, carrying wasn't I used to shoot off pf the hood of my Power wagon. It still shoots incredibly well. Are thumb holes for everyone, no but then AR's aren't either. To each their own. We used to have gun shows in my area of Commifornia, the SF bay area and you could get them there.

To those that say it does, why does it take longer to cycle the action than with a sporter.

Considering a Boyd thumbhole or AT-ONE for a savage I have.

It isnt a massive deal but it is noticeable.

Squeeze trigger, recoil, recover, take thumb out of hole, work bolt, put thumb back into hole.

Getting to the safety is more of a pain having to break position, deal with safety, rebuild position.

Its not the end of the world. Im not going to get rid of my thumb hole stock but I wont be getting another one either.

Love the way they feel but hate the slow safety. Like somebody else said, just depends on your hunting and shooting style. I remember back in the 90s when commyfornia insisted that ak s had to have a thumbhole stock to be legal!

I have a Boyd thumb hole stock on a Savage Axis 223 with out the accutrigger. It went from a 2 inch Moa gun with blue box Black Hills 52 gr BTHP to 1 inch Moa. Right from the start. But I have found old guys like me ( 55 years and up with arthritis ) and young folks just starting to shoot ( 12 to 20 years old ) it really helps them on shooting form with a thumb home stock. **** But here is the most important thing that has helped me in the senior citizen group and what I have seen in the youngster group. ..... It slows us down just a little.... We hang on on to the gun a little better and slows us down 1 second throwing another shell in chamber.... maybe making it a little safer for me and the youngsters. Marty

It also helps trap shooters who shoot numerous times a day in registered shoots.

I like this one. Bought it roughed in and finished it myself. Most rewarding and frustrating project ever. My first stock. Wife would hear me grunt and drag me away from it to take break. Glad she did. Mohawk in 6.5 RM. Shoots awesome.
Are they for everyone? No, like muzzle brakes and inherent accuracy. Just have fun.

I personally never liked the looks and refused to get one....until I shot one. Now I really love my manners T5. Super comfortable and feels like I have excellent control over my rifle. This is huge for me because I had a stroke when I was 28 that left my dominant shooting arm and hand numb and significantly weaker than normal. I really think that it is personal preference for the most part though. Everyone is different on what feels right to them. Try one and see if it is for you.

I have a thumbhole on my T/C Omega which served many years as my long range muzzleloader and liked it in that setting. However once I discovered the A3/A5 grip on a McMillan I never sought a thumbhole for a bolt action rifle...the vertical grip position was what I was really likeing about the thumbhole.

Pretty soon just looks will get it labeled assault rifle just because of hole. Stupid people ha ha
