Thread Protector Question

Hello, all. When I was brand new to centerfire rifle shooting I bought a 300 Win Mag. I say that like I learned a lot since then, but I know I have more to learn. Try to contain your surprise, but the recoil was too much for me, so I had a muzzle brake installed. Since then, I've learned a thing or two and think I could handle the recoil without a brake. I don't have a thread protector. I've heard it is not safe to shoot it with the brake off and no protector on. Is this the case?

I'm looking at getting another 300 Win Mag as a dedicated hunting rifle and don't want to deal with the decibel increase.

And no. I don't know anyone with one that I could borrow to see.

Only reason you need a thread protector is so you don't dink up the threads so your brake will still go on easily. If you're careful you'll never need one.
