Thoughts on New Federal 7mm Back Country

Alloys can make something useless become very very useful.

Something that work hardens like the stainless steels I use in machining or worse titanium alloys, would not work as a case material. With Federal coming up with something maliable, that does not work harden as severely, would actually IMO be great. If it can be "drawn" to shape the same way brass is, super great.

The Ron Spomer video added a few details that are helpful in me accepting it as a step forward.

Which is why I originally asked why this technology wasn't being offered for all cartridges where far greater income and licensing fees could be generated?

If it is something special, why limit it to one new unknown cartridge? Everything could die on the one vine.

What barrel length though? I'm considering a few short barrel builds in 338 and possibly 7, I try to do searches and every thread gets derailed by guys lambasting the idea. No one cares whether they think it's a good idea, they're asking folks in a "friendly" environment of like minded folks what their loads are and what kind of speeds. So the fact that a manufacturer see what people want and are trying to provide it is good, right? I'm not calling you out Tommy T, just spouting off on the neysayers. Back to my question to you, I like the Noslers, but can you get sufficient powder burn to push a 180 class bullet in sub 20" barrel? Or would that end up being a flame thrower? (No sarcasm, legit question)

You can but you will loose 30 FPS per inch so you would loose 120 fps on the 20" I use to go with the 20" barrels but not anymore I go with 22 or 23 you will not no the difference maybe a fewer once's heavy is all just take a pee before you start walking
