Thoughts on antler restrictions

Interesting that same who want AR in Michigan refuse to consider One Buck tag which IMO will add to the quality of bucks faster and provide more opportunity even on public lands. We cannot get consensus on anything relative to deer hunting. Throw in DNR and NRC insane weapon decisions for seasons and we the hunter is left holding the tag. For example, ALL weapons legal in Zone 3 muzzleloader season which is the most populated. Why even call it muzzleloader season? Too much to discuss here but we do not have a DNR that has the sports person best interest in mind. They are a political animal that listens to the loudest most politically connected first. I experienced this first hand getting the straight wall rifle rule through. Took 5 years of constant work by my legislative rep and my own personal time to attend legislative committee meetings.

Dinks. Tiny forky horns. I've not seen a single buck at or past ears. We go into Glasgow to the processor on down days and see them. Even the processors laugh and say "WST Bucks". My goose and duck hunting buddy works at the FWP office in Glasgow. They bring them in for CWD sampling. I'll get off the topic because it is a SORE SORE spot for all of us that hunt muley's, especially NE Montana.

Let them(game agency) skip rifle season 1 year. Vertical bow only. Then no non residents and resident only rifle for the second year. Let them voice the reason why.

I see zone 4 is not unlike adjacent WV counties Logan, Mingo, Mcdowell and Wyoming. Closed to all rifle/firearm hunting- just bow. Deer were about eradicated due to poor management, sustenance hunting and general scofflaws. However there are some real trophies up in the mountains where the locals really don't go.

One thing I did notice this year was that the doe tags were sold out. That has never happened before. Only thing I can think of is the Amish are buying them up. I'm hoping that will keep the deer in check better.

I absolutely think AR has helped the bucks in our area. You can just look at the racks on the walls and see how they have gotten bigger. We will never have bucks like they do in Pike Co or Texas, but seeing bigger bucks lately is nice.

We do put on small drives and I would hope that I'm not one of the 'worst people' you would meet.

Being able to going in and buy a DOE tag over the counter and on line is what did that

I am originally from Michigan. Now live in Pa. Do you remember when the doe first came out as a management tool and each county had harvest #s based on deer studies after the season and they where 1 or 2 dollars for a. Doe tag now 20 and unlimited tags in a lot . I agree only 1 buck tag would help a lot
 
I'm all for the law of the land. I would never chastise anyone for killing what you can kill! Legal is legal. That being said, I see so many deer die at the hands of hunters that are very young. I do not know the law of the land in all the states but I do know that in all the states I've hunted, a substantial amount of very young, immature bucks get killed. I have been guilty of this myself. Some years are tough and the freezer needs meat. I for one, cannot stomach the idea of chewing on ground turkey all winter so I get it. Maybe I'm wierd but I've gotten to a point in life when a part of me feels some sort of way when I see a dead fork spike killed by an adult human. I would never speak on that feeling because you kill what you want but I know for certain I'd be in support of antler type restrictions.

I believe that's the real influence in most of these laws. Kansas would have never allowed nonresidents to hunt had not the insurance companies forced the hands of legislators into action. They don't care how big the deer are, all they want is fewer of them.

I would not be surprised to find the Insurance companies had something to do with PA Sunday hunting. And being able to acquire a Buck tag n 6 does. Just try finding a body shop that can get you in in less than a month in my area. Lol
