We fought the motorcycles through 8-10" of snow to get to a scouting / long range shooting spot. The spot is absolutely pristine in terms of LRH. I packed the LRKM in my Ebberlystock Dragonfly pack, much nicer ride on the bike with the almost 12" shorter rifle despite a slightly heavier weight. After a short hike up the mountain to our nest where we can see up and down the canyon we glassed for a while spotting several deer and elk. Looks like they had a pretty good winter judging by their general health (and no sign of wolves). My hunting partner and I looked over the potential shots in the area, most fell in the 800 and in range perfect for his packing weight "Grand Slam" rifle chambered in 7 RUM. I saw several spots that looked like real hot spots and hubs of deer trail activity on a ridge 1326 yards away. Just below the trails was a rock slide the deer were avoiding with a large flat slab rock about 2' by 2'. I had no doubt that hit the rock was a done deal despite never having shot the LRKM at distances over 100 yards yet. I was concerned that the additional velocity being almost 300 fps faster than a standard Edge might change the BC enough to require valadtaion. I used my standard 338 Edge profile and changed the velocity to 3100 fps, I dialed up 28.25 moa and having little wind dialed only .50 moa left. Near the top of the rock was a smal 3"x6" grey spot that I called as an aiming point. I sent the first shot and clipped the center bottom edge of the grey spot. Well once is luck, so I fired 2 more shots, one centered for elevation and a few inches left but still on the grey and the last dead centered in the grey spot making the group around 3.5-4 inches. I was tickeled to death with it. The platform makes field shooting twice as easy as a standard Canyon Rifle mostly due to the rear weight bias. Shooting form the ground with a bipod and rear bag was ultra solid and a confidence inspiring event. I will release load specs and data soon after we get some 2000+ yard testing done. I fully expect to be getting some groups in the 12-15" range at 2K. The advantage of 3100 fps with the Berger 300 Hybrid over the 2800 fps SMK is unbelievable until you shoot them side by side.
