I have a 277 fury with a 16" barrel, the Sig 150 grain accubond box ammo shoots about 1" at 100 yards and averages 2995 fps. This is the higher pressure stuff of their 2 offerings, I believe it's supposed to be 80k psi but some guys on the internet seem to "know" differently. Pretty impressed to see the least, Sigs 150 grain accubond box ammo for the 270 with a 24" barrel advertises 2800. To shoot 200 fps faster than their 270 box ammo with the same bullet and much longer cartridge and barrel, that's pretty simple.... its faster. I don't know about the 7 backcountry, but he also asked about the 277 fury, and I can testify to it. I have been shooting, resizing and now simply reliading it for a couple years. I personally like it quite a bit. Going to be pretty awesome with a 6.5 fury too. I'm not sure why Federal would start with a long action though, seems like they should have started with a 80k mag to REALLY set it apart, or stick with a short action like Sig and continue to branch from there. There are other cartridges that can utilize a long action to get the speeds they r getting with the 7 backcountry. It's a start to a good thing, just like Sig though... lots of calibers are going to increase about 2-300 fps here in the next few years I'm guessing. lol

One big difference is that the 277 Fury used a hybrid case, didn't it? That might be a better solution if we can resize it. I'd like to see a case resized with Peak Alloy, those cases are entirely coated inside/outside of case.

It is all very new and like most things, the OG stuff will have some flaws that just do not show until us gorillas get a hold of it. I hope it succeeds. I will be sticking with my trusty, rusty 7mm Rem Mag though.

3rd round fired. 4th and 3rd are identical according to the friend who sent this picture. And very hard bolt lift. 1st and 2nd round, no issue except for slight hard bolt lift.

As of right now, there are no further details. Other than rifle is brand new from a well known custom rifle company.

I'm curious. Did your friend mention what that rupture was like when shot? Big gas leak or didn't notice?
Was there any damage or erosion to the chamber or bolt?
It can be no fun at 60 KSI, and I can imagine less fun at 80 KSI.

For those that like to ponder outside the box...

Do you know what type of action your friend was using? A standard Remington 700 action is just over 1". Many actions are larger, but there's a fair amount of them that copy the Remington, on their clones. If you look at a tactical action you can see how much more could be in the action. I say this in regard to the rumor of "larger action may be needed for 80,000 psi".

The confusing part is that in this situation, the actual case is split, and that can only point to the ammo itself. I hope Federal is able to come up with a plausible reason, otherwise I don't see how your friend can be at fault.
