The latest greatest Federal Cartridge

I'm in wait/see mode on the 7BC, but if it proves to be what they claim it to be, count me in.

And, @southpa, I sent an inquiry last week to Fierce Firearms, because they list the 7BC on their website that they build them, and they have them listed as an available cartridge just like Weatherby does. So I asked if they have a physical reamer, since their video implies they're shooting factory ammo. I don't mean to be a pessimist, cause as I said, if it will do what they claim, fly me in. But it has to be reloadable for me to even consider it. I see no reamers, no dies, no brass other than once fired. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, but they're making it easy. Couple that with Federal marketing and I'm curious what happens in a couple weeks when the buzz subsides???😏

No reply to date, over a week. Maybe they're on NDA?

Understood. But it will be out. I'm not even sure if it's been officially introduced has it? There is 80 plus rifles that are being chambered in this. Over the years i've spoken many companies seeking info on many different products and none of them were able to tell me anything with regards to what they have been working on and then one day it's out. This is nothing new. Two days till shot show....hasn't it already been said it is reloadable by federal? I feel like most people in today's world want what they want now. I could be wrong but I'm guessing this is nothing different. Do you really think there won't be reamers? It will be a saami chambering, everything thats available will be available. Relax and be patient all your answers will come. No need to think this is not going to happen, ill bet you lunch it happening haha. Its really happening it just hasnt happened yet. Thats all I'm saying.

I don't know if it's been introduced, but there was a gigantic flood of content creators on YT who got rifles and ammo to test. I wasn't one of them.;)

Even if it was introduced, my point is how can you even reload the cases without dies? I don't think the cartridge is even SAAMI. It makes me think that what they may do is use this technology on pre-existing cartridges, to change the cases to peak alloy and take them to 80,000 psi from 65,000. I'm not sure if it would make sense or not. The buzz these days is long sleek bullets with slightly shorter cases with the shoulder lowered for more powder. They also claim they use less powder, another thing I like.

I hadn't realized that, I have never been able to attend. But it will be interesting to see if one of the diemakers announces dies!

No, not at all, I will be on the bandwagon. Just that right now, it's hard for me to get too excited about it until I have a reamer and dies that will work with the peak alloy properly. So, yes, I believe there will be reamers, I believe there will be dies, I believe there will be brass. But it doesn't seem the right time for me to start thinking about building such a rifle without those components available. I'm not going to be buying ammo for any cartridge. I have a tactical blank that would make a long action just fine. If those components come out, maybe that will push it to the top of the list. It is encouraging, so I don't mean to be pessimistic about it. Shot show will answer the Federal Marketing question I have.;)

Still can't find Backcountry dies anywhere. Looking forward to working the 270 Brass for this new Cartridge. I don't have anything in the .458" Shoulder width. I can't wait for the Backcountry Improved to become a reality.

In what world does the 7prc hit 2920 with a 170 in a 16" barrel? This is not "gaslighting" this is SMASHING anything the PRC will ever wish it could be. It will never. The PRC fan bois are getting ridiculous.

Nowhere have I heard Federal claim its going to be "the king". However it's already putting thr 7prc to shame. It's looking like it's pretty much "kinging" any .284 cartridge in its class.

You do realize that eventually that same tech will most likely make it over to the PRC's, and other legacy cartridges, removing the sole advantage the 7 BC has right? It's cool now but let's not kid ourselves that in the long run it will be in the exact same place the .280 AI is now once smaller and larger cartridges are introduced.

I don't make my selections based on what hasnt happened yet. And I don't care about what may happen with the PRC and i dont care whats "cool". I hope this is the death of the PRC. Nothing is kidding me. I'm aware this is the beginning of the "high pressure craze" its pretty apparent. I was plainly stating the facts as the 7BC relates to the 7PRC off a comparison SOMEONE else stated. The 7PRC has nothing on this 7BC, what does your prediction of the future have to do with that? You're moving the goal post based off guesses. I'm stating facts based off real world results....what's your point?

Got it, you're one of those people.

Might wanna study the performance of the 7prc...just saying

I have one, it shoots a 175 ELD-X at 2860 fps out of a 20" barrel with the first load I tried. Puts my effective range at 800 yards which is about 200 yards farther than I can find a spot to shoot here in PA.

I'm sure N560 could get it faster but it didn't have pressure with N565 so I loaded up 30 and went hunting. I'll probably revisit the load in a year or two but it works good enough as is.

I'd like to know what the fps is after you get it dialed in and have a 16" barrel on it. Both you and @southpa make some good points, but you just said you have one, but it's shooting 2860 in a 20" barrel... 🤔 The video was getting close to 3000 fps with a 16" barrel. If I had the stuff to reload that today, I may very well consider it, but how could one do that if we can't reload for it? Do you think it's possible to eek another 140 fps faster and remove 4" off the barrel as well? 🤔 Understood it's the first load, but still...

EDIT, to be fair, the Hornady site does have some loads at 3000 fps for a 175 grain ELD-M, however that's with a 24" barrel. That means you believe you will get the same fps with 8" off the barrel? That's a pretty big magnum. 🤔

"7-BCR", "30-BCR" & "65-BCR" for regular brass .
