Suppressor Laws

As I'm sure most everyone already knows the tax stamp laws are completely unconstitutional. However that will never stop government from trying to arrest more and more control over people. Funny how the 1936 gun control act was challenged by only one person that was shot down right before the supreme Court hearing. Reminds me of all the money missing from the Haitian hurricane disaster back in the 90's with Bill Clinton and all the money disappeared and the day before the Haitian diplomat was to appear before the Senate he had a bar bell crush his throat the night before while working out.
My point to all this is never give up your God given rights!!
If people would have just told the government we will not comply you would still be able to by full auto guns at the gas station. Yeah I know freedom is dam scary, get over it and take control of your future and stop asking the government to save you. They don't care about you ask Hawaii and the Carolina's
We need to tell our representatives to do away with the ATF and the unconstitutional laws

I'm so aggravated with this entire process with these suppressors. I've had 1 in the que over a year, I had to resubmit a photo for, and its still not cleared. Call the ATF and all they will relay is its in process. Crazy thing about it all, I purchased a little 6.5 Creedmore for my grandkids 2 weekends ago with my CHL/ATF clearance, and walked out with the rifle. Whole thing doesn't make any sense.

Do away with the suppressor tax stamp all together should be the final outcome. If we can't get there, it would be nice to get something in place to clean up the process. I had two suppressors this year cleared in less than 24 hours. I have two more waiting since May and August. So I've been on both ends of the waiting game. There is no rhyme to any reason on how the process works. I would certainly think anyone with a concealed who has gone through that background check process should be able to walk in and buy one just like a rifle or pistol, but that would make too much sense, so I wait.

It makes no sense because it was designed that way by our controllers. They purposely add as many speed bumps into our lives as possible. The glut of laws and rules and regulations we are required to adhere to on a daily basis are impossible to legally comply to all.

My suppressor just came in. It took me three months? Via kiosk. My background checks do take quite awhile for a gun purchase. I'm one of those guys I guess (former military, never arrested; okay I have had a couple speeding tickets, that's about it). I do have a VA hearing loss.
I'm like you also. Ex mil. Was a DOD civilian Paramedic who worked at the Armies CDTF, Chemical Defense Training Facility on the now closed Ft. McClellan Ala. Later on it became the CDP , Center for Defence Preparedness.under the Justice Dept./Homeland Security /FEMA. We trained military and Civilians to work in the field and cities under chemical threat. IE, we used real, very real nerve agents.plus the chem and biological agents(anthrax) I had a very high security clearance. After all that I still get put on hold when I purchase a new gun store toy. I think they don't trust me.

One thing I can tell everyone here, the entrenched GOVERNMENT, does not like Patriots, and consider Ex Mil, Cops, etc as a threat.

Just hope they don't index the Tax Stamp to CPI or inflation. $200 in 1934 is $4,706 today. 🤮

The last Trump administration, there was a big push for this concept inside the tax reform bill, mainly around tying AMT amounts to an index, like many other things are (standard deduction, exemptions, estate tax, etc). If it's a revenue source it's on the table during any tax reform. Those changes were generally wins for taxpayers because it resulted in automatic increases in deductions, but that doesn't mean we can't lose if the coin comes up tails next time.

I paid a lot of taxes to get my suppressors, but have zero qualms about all the money I paid for stamps going POOF if it meant we got rid of stamps. I paid to get them because that was the current law, I would like to be able to sell them easier TBH.

I agree with the high-level comments that this shouldn't be. But that's not the world we live in today, and IMO don't let perfect be the enemy of good - one possibility is make the NFA stamp be like a duck stamp - buy one for $20 at the post office anytime you want to do a transfer, and then any FFL can get a mark to apply to the form/ cancel the stamp to complete the transfer. Put the same background check stuff as the ATF 4473 on the Form 4. Doesn't require reworking the entire law at once. ATF still gets all the Form 4s so they can continue to keep us on the right watch lists (🤡), but lowers the cost and changes who approves. Incremental wins are wins. If you remove enough bricks from a wall, it crumbles. This is what the east end of the political spectrum has been doing for years - making enough small exceptions that eventually there's nothing left. Why not seek full repeal and incremental change parallel to each other?

RE: bump stocks and forced reset triggers. I'll admit I struggled with those, initially they seemed to fall into a grey area because they were new to the market and obviously not anticipated in the 1934 law. Being a non-reactionary nerd I dug into it. Ultimately the ATF really screwed themselves over with their initial rulings on those, then made a blatant power grab via the rulemaking process. Last I saw on the FRT ban was that Judge O'Conner right here in Fort Worth shot it down as of July this year. Great ruling with a good technical analysis of why the ATF rule made no sense. Sucks to spend time wandering the desert, but it's not the end of the world to spend some time getting a bureaucrat pimp slapped in court.

I see bump stocks as stupid and useless - but Tesla's are also stupid, and we need to ensure regulations clear a high burden as not to infringe on our God given right to do stupid things simply because we want to . Tannerite is stupid, and I shoot it enough that I won't judge the bump stock and FRT guys. We're all in this together!

Many good and true comments about suppressors being unfairly regulated. The truth is we either suck up the background check and $200 bucks or else get the Dems on board to fix it. If they fixed it now on a partisan basis, the Dems would use it against us in future campaigns for many years with untrue claims about suppressors being made available to commit crimes without anyone hearing the shots.

I know the processing time has dramatically improved for suppressors but I will still be contacting my representatives to see if the Hearing Protection Act can get revived. Got so close before and it looks like the next two years might be prime for some deregulation of this.
Truly with the processing times and what not now, it truly is just a tax and I don't think one can make the case that they are picking up additional unqualified buyers that the normal 4473 background checks don't get.
I been waiting for 2 mos now for mine to clear for my rifle. It is what it is for now. It's not likely that the Beurcrices will let go of $200 for the liscence, me thinks.

Oh the libtards think a silencer can make your 300 Wby or 45-70 sound like a whisper. They believe too much of the garbage LA puts out.
But it's a big error to think that gun controllers are misguided by factual error. These people may use facts when it suits them, but they are not driven by fact. They are driven by a desire to disarm you, to rescind your rights. In achieving those goals, to them the end justifies the means. Lying and bending fact are to be expected from them. That's the kind of war we're in. That's the kind of enemy we face..
