Have any of you guys used re17 for the 300 wm? I would love some help with the starting load for the Berger 190 vld and the hornady 208 amax. What did you guys find was the max load with this powder? Thank you all

Did you ever think of calling a powder company or perhaps a bullet company and asking them?? Or how about a loading book.
Oh wow --what do a little work for myself. lightbulb
Do you get spoon fed at the table??

I already did my work shirlock. However if you would go read the Manuel for reloader 17 they list one load only. they do not give a max load or a starting load. Mabye you should do your homework before you post. So forgive me for asking for help in obtaining some data . I apologize Junior Member I did not know that this site was made not to help people!!

I looked in three books for a load at those bullet weights for RL17 and didn't find anything. I use 78 gr rl25 with 200gr accubonds with good results, incase you were interested in using diferent powders.

Thank you so much for the replys. Blacktail hunter thank you for the data. I have looked and looked and do not know where you found them. Thank you very much

I'm not going to take sides but calliing or e-mail to alliant may help on getting a load using R-17. If you read the warning before clicking on that load data you may of seen the

REDUCE RIFLE AND HANDGUN CHARGE WEIGHTS BY 10% TO ESTABLISH A STARTING LOAD.
The exceptions to this are the loads listed as "target" in the 38 Special and 45 ACP data tables.

DO NOT EXCEED THE LOADS DISPLAYED ON THE SITE OR ALLIANT'S RELOADERS GUIDE.

I would assume the load listed would be max.

I know trying to get data here is very helpful and good place to start but R-17 is fairly new. Alliant was very helpful on data for the 280AI using R-17.

That data was strait from berger just give them a call they are real nice and will send any help they can..

Darrin I have just started load development using Reloader 17 and some 165G barnes tsx boatails. 62g of re17 and the 165g bullet produced velocity of 2917 from a 24" barrel @25 degrees temp. 65g of re17 and the 156g tsx produced 3005 fps with no pressure signs. I know you were looking for data on heaveir bullets but I thought i would provide what info I had.

A Quickload simulation using 3.340" OAL, Win brass, 26" barrel, RL-17

190gr VLD Max 68.0gr at 3000fps, start should be ~63.5gr.

208gr AMAX Max 66.6gr at 2867fps, start should be around ~62.1gr.

Remember this is only a simulation. According to Quickload you would get about 100 fps more for the 208gr AMAX using Ramshot Magnum, Accurate Magpro, IMR 7828 SSC, and 80 fps more using RL-22 (best to lesser).

The above 4 alternate powders would also give higher velocity with 190gr VLD, at 60-90fps more than RL-17.
