Spotting Scope for Range work

You know for strictly range work maybe a camera system would make more sense???
I have zero experience so i honestly don't know but something to think about

I'm running a Vortex Viper 85 mm

I had a viper and bought a razor and, from what I recall side-by-side comparing, the razor was SIGNIFICANTLY clearer / sharper image than the Viper. Given it's getting tough to see bullet holes at 600yds with the razor, I would think the viper wouldn't resolve at 500yds. Not trying to put down the Viper but can you really see bullet holes at 500yds with the Viper?

Truly can not say as my range only goes to 300. But I do know a black target on a black back board 224 and 243 hole can be tough to see
