I have that ich again to find another accurate round to chamber an ar15 in. I like the 22arc but the bolt scares me 224valkrie is dead I'm led to believe and 22nosler is just a hot 223rem? I'm looking for recommendations for cartridges to reload for and component recommendations as ive pretty much depleted my stores of extra parts. How much do I need to spend to build a 3/4moa ar upper or should I settle for 1moa? sorry for the multiple questions in one. feel free to jump in anywhere and answer any or all.

20 Practical is a fine AR cartridge if you want small and fast. Easy to form cases, fast, accurate and deadly on small critters. I built a 6ARC on the AR platform a while back and am very pleased with the performance and accuracy. I used an EABCO accuracy barrel and assembled everything else using all the accuracy mods as you should for any accurate AR.

I built a 6ARC getting close to 4 years ago now. In that time I've put about 1500 rounds through it. I'm more into bolt guns, and while I've tuned some 223 ARs, getting the ARC to run was a challenge for me. I used a proof 20" steel barrel. I'd definitely go 18" doing it again. The proof has held under 1 MOA. I'm usually around 3/4 for 3 shot groups. I don't routinely do 5 shot groups with any rifle. I haven't had or seen any issues with the bolt. Several of the folks I used to shoot Quantified Performance matches with were also running 6 ARC in higher volume than I was shooting without issue. Recommend the JP Enhanced bolt.

I went the 204 route and wish I had done the 20p. I'm pretty fanatical about keeping up with my brass. I found 204 to be hard to find good brass and very expensive. The 20p I could find matching headstamp from range pick up 223 and pass it through the die once for a neck resize and be good to go. If I loose it in the field, no big deal.
The 20p is not quite as fast as the 204, but I believe it's fast enough. I like the 204 but the 20p seems better for me in an auto.

What scares you about the bolt for the 22 ARC?

Not sure why you won't just go 22 ARC. I'm hearing tons of good things about that in an AR platform. Check out Texas Predator Hunting on YouTube. He has a really nice build that has been running flawlessly.

I'm in the process of building a bolt gun in 22 ARC and will likely build a gas gun too. Looking forward to getting some shooting in!

Spend a little time studying on the bolts and bolt carrier groups, don't buy the lowest priced bolt or bolt carrier group. Bolts for AR's are built of Carpenter no. 158 and 9310 steels; the 9310 bolts are hardened completely through and the carpenter no 158 bolts are case hardened. the carpenter no 158 bolts are less likely to break for this reason, they are more costly to be manufactured, Colt and a few others manufacture them. Pay attention to the pressures closely in your AR's, they won't handle the higher pressures of some of the top end loads that reloaders load. There is an interesting article by Gun Builders Depot the full guide to the AR-15 bolts carrier group, although it says the complete guide it isn't, but it does have very good information in it. When you get into building a more accurate AR there are things done that the average person really doesn't need to be concerned with that those builders do just like reloading for competitive shooters do to their brass bullets and powder measuring. It can be a very complex world to get into or just a matter of looking into it far enough to build a safe and fun AR.

Amen to that!
