These kinds of threads always remind me of those folks out there who dump thousands of dollars of maintenance into old sh**box trucks because it's "cheaper than a new one"... never mind the fact that it doesnt always start, may leave you stranded somewhere, smokes, noisy, radio and AC dont work anymore, slow/poor gas mileage. Even if your old one runs... it's still probably not even half as capable as whats on the market now.
Just because a group of people refuse to stop using it, doesnt mean there arent much better options out there. The 6.5 PRC is the "new truck", its better in just about every single measurable way. Should you sell all your older rifles or have them re-barreled to it? No... but if you are are buying new and dont have any prior investment you'd be stupid to go buy the older platform that isnt even optimized for the task at hand (the OP said long range hunting). If "long range" hunting for you is inside of 500yds, by all means grab you a box of core-lokts from Walmart and eat your heart out.

Nope, I've loved my Winchester model 70 in .270 cal. for 50+ years and it's did everything I wanted it to do and I'm still kicking,we all aren't dead.

You have to shoot a long ways for the CM to catch up. In a hunting application you run out of gas (energy) before you really see a difference. Now if you want to talk about the recoil trade off I think the CM wins out.

Hopefully there will be an optional fast twist offering. Standard 10 twist or optional 8/9 twist. Most hunters do not know anything about twist rates and required bullets for certain twist barrels. The good thing about getting a faster twist barrel is, even light bullets shoot fine in them. If only one barrel will be offered for the .270 cartridge, it'd be best that its an 8 or 9 twist, not 10.

That's my point. There are thousands of 1:10 twist 270's out there. Offering new rifles in fast twist doesn't help that. So you have a scenario where regular hinters see the latest and greatest ammo offerings and buy it. Then it keyholes or can't hit paper and they think it's trash.
The Creedmoors and PRC's will never have that problem.

I understand that. Ammo manufacturers will have to print that in bold print when it's produced. The longer heavier bullets loaded will need to have this info on the box. REQUIRES 8 TWIST BARREL. The current ammunition does not require that information.

Doubtful that specialty ammo will be sold at big box stores. Currently you can't just find HSM 7mm mag ammo in 180/195 in stores like that. Before I got involved in LR shooting, I purchased run of the mill ammo in stores and that's all that is on the shelf. Finding premium LR ammo is something only sold in specialty shops.
No offence, but I call big 'bs' on that; maybe for starters just learn how to shoot, how to place your shot and use the right bullets for the job at task! I've literally killed hundreds of Elk & Reds in my lifetime back in NZ, were we hunt all year around, just about every week and over 85% were (mostly one) shot kills with all kinds of 6.5's; touch wood, not a single one that got away sofar and I continued this tradition while I moved here to

At the same token, I've also witnessed lots of animals being wounded while shot overhere whit one of the big 'flat-shooting' .30 or .338 cal. magnums by shooters with..., well, you can fill that sentence in for yourself! Fact is: 6.5's have proven themselves for over 125 years as viable military round aswell as a reliable Moose killing cartridge in the whole of Scandinavia: why do you think that Elk would be any different? Its good to finally see the 6.5's finally establishing itself inside NA, as it s been long overdue!

just kidding my buddy (hes 30 y/o) has a very accurate weatherby mark 5 in .270. Great rifle.

Because people try to shoot animals to far away over 500 yds when energy drops below 1500No offence, but I call big 'bs' on that; maybe for starters just learn how to shoot, how to place your shot and use the right bullets for the job at task! I have said this many times before. More than people disliking to CM, I think they dislike the Hype around it and the unreasonable expectations that that has sewn in the ill informed.
