I would be willing to bet that their medical care , or lack thereof has something to do with it .

you have to remember that there are so many kinds of anti venom out there, that they have a hard time stocking each type. Some bites require a total blood transfusion, and others inject massive amounts of venom in the body. A King Cobra can inject as much as a pint in you if he hangs on for a long time. They rarely do. Cobra venom is nothing close to an Emerald Viper or a Krait on the toxicity list. More closer to a Rattle Snake. A King Cobra is very big, and often bites you in the upper part of the torso. The venom only has a short path to the brain from there. Luckily the King Cobra is not all that common in and around people as he prefers to eat other snakes. Bamboo Vipers are very common, and very aggressive. People get bit on their shoulders or even the face. Not a good thing.
