Shooting from tripod with gun saddle

It will definitely work well for you IF you start with a very high quality, stable tripod. You'll want one rated for at least 3x the weight of your rig otherwise it won't hold up or be particularly stable.

Thanks for the tip about weight I think it holds 30lbs and gun is around 9 so that should work

I tried several and found the legs had too much flex to either get perfectly steady or to withstand the recoil forces on my bigger boomers.

I spent about six months or so cruising Ebay and found a big, heavy duty, manfrotto carbon fiber tripod rated for fifty pounds and it solved all of my issues. Best thing about it is being a carbon fiber TP it only weighs I think around 7-9lbs.

I've been using it off and on now for five or six years with no problems.

If you get the reaper grip, you can skip the pistol grip ball head. The reaper allows for lateral and vertical movement.

Kopfjager sells tripods as well. They have a carbon fiber model, but it's pretty spendy and only rated for 20 pounds. They also have a cheaper model as well rated for more weight but I believe it's aluminum. I went with manfroto because kopfjager was on backorder. I believe mine is aluminum and weigh 5-6 pounds.

Ive been looking at the Innorel brand on amazon. The RT-80C model. Its a carbon fiber model weighing 3.5lbs and is rated to handle 44lbs. Only thing im not sure about is the twist lock legs. Im also looking at the mini pig tripod as well.

I just ordered a 80C last week. I have the big boy 90C, and the twist locks are a non issue.

The head is a Desmond DLOW55. With the Hog Saddle weight is 8 1/2 lbs, so it's not for sheep hunting.

I have a lighter setup for coyote hunting, but it will not go high enough to shoot standing with. Figured I'd be OK, as I always sit when calling. The 80C will fit between the two sizes I have.

I belive it's the 535 and has a heavy duty Manfrotto Video mount and ball head.
