Sherman Wildcats 7SS / 7 & 300 MEGA

I ran 180s bergers at 2900fps in a 24" 7SS with rl26. It was a max working load that still gave good brass life. Barrel was a proof CF, seemed a little slow compared to others results but no matter it was very accurate

I've done 3 7 megas and all 3 have averaged between 3010-3030 with 180's on 22" barrels with reliable brass life. 7SS I've done 2 and both were 2870-2890 on 22" with 180's. As far as barrel life on the 7 mega, one I did for my buddy is over 800 rounds and he just sent me this group yesterday so it's holding up fine thus far. I'll be interested to see when it goes south.
That's very promising. With a 33" barrel I imagine that could be north of 3200.

I'm only pushing the 180's 2920 with N555 right now in my PRCW.

I can reach 3200 with a 175 EH and N570 in a 25 1/4 barrel.
My working load with a 195 is 3020 with N570.
You should be in cruise control at 3200 with a 33" barrel!
Im running an 8.5 twist Rock Creek

I so want to get more rock barrels. I have always had good luck with them ever since my first 308 one many decades ago.

I have certain powder volumes I think are the balance point on performance where when you go over barrel life really suffers (sub 1k). I think the mega is it for the 7mm, Norma Mag Imp for heavy 30 cal, Lapua Mag Imp for the heavy 338. Basically the heaviest bullet in class in a reasonable barrel length needs to break 3k.

You look at the 7 Nosler and unless you really baby it your sub 1k. The Mega I think hits it perfect for the med- heavy 7s.

I agree that there is a "juice vs squeeze" or law of diminishing returns tipping point in cartridges. And the Sherman's fill every caliber from 6mm to 7mm.

6SST
25SS
6.5max
7mega

You get a bunch of performance out of those cartridges through sheer efficiency. Yes there are cartridges that will push the big bullets faster but take a considerable amount more powder to do it.

That being said I'm waiting on a hand delivered 25max reamer that should be here by the end of the month. Hopefully I can get a 135gr to 3200fps without leaning on it too much.

Have you tried 24N41 yet with the 195's?

I really hope Berger brings out a target bullet for the 195 EOL's.

Speaking of 195 EOL, has anyone tried the 195 EOL in the 7 SS? Maybe with Retumbo? Running a Tikka with plenty of mag space, but I don't know how the 7 SS is with throat length. Just starting to play with a Hells Canyon Carbon Killer. I don't run any VV powders, never have, but I keep hearing it brought up with the 7 SS.

Retumbo works pretty well in the SS, especially if you were to run the .230 f class FB with the Tikka
