I'm not overly intelligent, but I have to ask how the filter in a gas mask filters-out the methanol in the stuff? Methanol is wood alcohol; it's deadly when ingested. I have read that the crews who serviced and maintained the Soviet jet fighters that were stationed in the far north regions of the country would drink the alcohol that was used to do something (I know not what) in the jet engines. You have to be pretty sad to do that, which would leave your Air Force less than ready to respond from an attack or an incursion from China.
