Scope ideas for hunting and Long Range Shooting

Thanks for all of your input on this. The thing that does concern me about the Vortex is they are heavy from my understanding. Great products with a great warranty.

Take a look at an AMG. Don't let 6x on the bottom end scare you, the AMG has the same FOV at 6x as a Leupold 4-12x50 has at 4x and more than a Leupold 4.5-14x50 at 4.5x, more than a 5-20 SHV at 5x, so on so forth.

I would look at a leupold 3-18 mark5 first focal plane the reticle has a small dot when zoomed in so the reticle doesn't get so big and cover the whole target.

I haven't had any issues in 9months with my vx5hd shot out to 600 and everywhere between with no issues. And I dial for anything over 200 yards pretty much if time allows.

The new nightforce nx8 might be a good option for you too. Don't think you would have to worry about that not tracking.

The leupold mark 5 is a fine scope. I have had 2 with different reticles. Both tracked fine. I have one on my .223 that bumps around on the tractor and farm pickup with me. I feel like I can recommend them. For a hunting scope I'd go with the PRS reticle if you are an MOA guy TMR if MIL.

With that said I also have a vortex AMG and if I had to choose one or the other it'd be the AMG due to the reticle.

Both do good in low light and both aren't too heavy.

There are lots of good scopes these days for under 2k. You can find Nightforce ATACR 4-16 F1 under $2k used pretty regularly.

I'll second this, I just picked up the 2.5-20 for my dad and depending on how it works out I might be buying a second one for my hunting rifle build.

I am looking for a scope too. My problem is I can't decide . My heart says Swarovski x5i but my pocket book says Nightforce nxs. I wanted the nx8 but I don't want the capped windage.

I've been doing FFP/mil for too long as a competitor to switch to anything else.
Choices will be driven in that category by weight and cost-there's a ton of great scopes out there.
I always ran US Optics for comp guns, but I don't think I'll need to pull my scope and beat anything to death so I'm exploring lighter options. I also went from being a sponsored shooter with a great paying job to a municipal employee on my own dime, so I looked into less expensive scope.
I recently put a Nikon FX1000 4-16 on my budget 6.5CM deer/goat build and really like it so far.
