Need some help picking out a scope
This will be mounted on a 7prc with sporter barrel. I am setting this rifle up for deer and possibly elk out west. Could also see some time in the deer stand in the Midwest. Would like this setup to be able to make shots on game out to 600 yrds
Needs to be ffp, I am not really concerned about weight. Leaning towards illumination to help with using reticle on low power if needed
Here are some that I am considering ( these are 1000.00 and under on the used market
Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 non illu( was told reticle was useable on lower power)
Eotech vudu 5-25x 50 illu
Burris xtr iii 3.3-18x50 illu
Athlon ares ETR 4.5-30x56 illu
Bushnell LRTS 4.5-18x44 non illu
Element titan 5-25x56 illu
I'm a little concerned about 44mm objective not letting in enough light for late shots
Little concerned about 56mm objective having to be mounted to high
Open to thoughts and other suggestions

My first question is why FFP only? Out to 600, I would go with a quality SFP but to each his own.
You'll definately want illumination if you stick with FFP. The reticle on lower power settings will be difficult to impossible to see in low light without it.
Otherwise, that's a decent list. I'd go with the Burris or the Bushnell but have no experience with the others.

Good luck.

For 600 yards and in, and with the need for "deer stand in the Midwest" conditions, you might be a little overkill with the 5-25 magnification class. I'd look hard at the 3 power bottom end scopes (3-15, 3-18).

Even 4 power is a little tight for up close work, though if you practice "both eyes open" shooting, an illuminated reticle will function reasonably well as a "red dot" type system even at the higher magnifications. Takes a little practice to get used to letting your non-dominant eye take control of your view though.

First, there's nothing wrong with using a FFP…IF you plan on using the reticle. There's a lot of ways to do so.

That said, I would chose a scope that's reticle speaks to you.

Now days 34mm scopes have really entered this budget scope catagory of $1200 and below. Consider those, though just know they will have more adjustment than you need for a limit at 600y.

The Bushnell is usually a good value. Consider Tract, Gen 2 razor and maybe look at a lesser known name Riton who competes in the space of Athlon and Element.

Your concern about the obj hitting but it is simply mitigated by your scope ring height and sizing it correctly. Double check this, especially if you're using something like a 30 moa rail. I don't think I have a single set up that has more than a 1/8th-1/4 inch gap between the bell and the barrel.

While I've never used an SHV, I can tell you without hesitation that as far as consistency and repeatability my nightforce scopes are far and away the best when dialing/returning to zero.
