Scope field evaluations on rokslide

My 338 NM comes in at 9-2 0z with my nx8. Can I go to AK now.I assure you if some toothy critter charges me ill get the lead out.I have no problem with fielding any scope, on my hunting rigs

Hunt away friend! If you practice with anything you can be good with it. Better than most with better equipment. Beware the man with one gun. That is a nice setup but it is probably not ideal for most. I would wager 65-70 percent of shooters would struggle with a 9 lbs 338 WM with no muzzle devise. That comes direct from one of my PH buddies. He would much rather have you show up with an 06. For those of us who shoot a lot and shoot well that gun makes since but it's not for everyone. Again pick what works for you and learn it well and I promise it will serve you well if it is set up well.

You are referring to the 6x SFP fixed correct?

I want to try to 3 -15 x 42mm SS, but I cannot find a picture of the illuminated reticle, is the full reticle illuminated or is it a center dot. There were some of the SS versions that were tight on the eyebox, was it the compact/ultralight versions?

Yes, well any of the fixed power, but the 6x and the 10x are best for hunting. I have not used the 3-15, only the fixed. I don't see a 3-15 with an illuminated reticle- just the 5-20. The eye box on the 6x/10x/12x are not tight to me. Could be the UL 2-7.

Your right the 4-32. My gun smith loves that scope. But it doesn't meet the criteria. The eye box in the 32 is significantly better than the 2.5-20. It is also significantly longer and heavier. Over 30 oz if memory serves me correct. Like the Kahles 6-24 vs the 5-25 they are completely different optics.

4-32 is 0.3oz heavier than 2.5-20. 1.4" longer.

13.4-13.5" 28.6-28.9oz vs 12.0-12.1" 28.3-28.6oz

Differences are FFP vs SFP. Hawkins LR Hybrids are 3.9oz. Puts you about an ounce over your 32oz threshold.

What criteria? A scope that tracks and holds together? Cause it sure does. Last I checked this thread was about scope reliability. Also last I checked this was long range hunting forum. Am I correct on both? This is not ultra lightweight 6lbs 100 yard shooting forum. Most people are packing 8-12lbs rifles capable of shooting distances. And yes in gnarly county. My customs land between 8.5 and 12.5 lbs. I hunt hells canyon and alike. Backcountry difficult stuff. My dad and mom backpack hunt with me at 65 and 66 both packing 10lbs rifles. An nx8 is definitely not too heavy. Shoot, an atacr isn't too heavy on a well put together rifle. If you build it right you acct for a heavier scope as it's one huge key factor in a trust worthy system. A leupold mark5 is 30oz. I just don't get where you're going with all this. If you have different goals that is fine but those goals don't align with most here.

I clearly stated that I would choose the Atacr over the Mark 5 numerous times. I own three guns that weigh 8 lbs or less. They are a 7-08, 270, and 308. My other three weigh 10 lbs or more.30-06, 300 WM, 338 WM, 338 IMP. The IMP weighs 12+ lbs. It's on the bottom. It actually wears an Athlon as does the 6.5x284 above. Both rifles shoot .25 or better moa. And have never lost zero. That group is a five shot group. It measured .029. The rifle has just over 800 rounds through it. I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a long range hunt. It may go with us to Texas in March to hunt Aoudad. I choose the Athlon because when I built it five years ago it was the only scope that offered 32 mils of adjustment for both elevation and windage. It met a criteria. It was not meant as a hunting rifle originally but was built to shoot 2000+. It rings steel at 1250+ like clock work. Again mission specific. NF is not the only scope capable of holding zero, as others have demonstrated. Blessing friend.

Had to put this up.Weve come a long way from where I started,340 wby with a Sheppard.I shot elk to 800 with that set up, thats back when I had hair, that scope had dual cross hairs and they never did truly line up,3-10 I think, and ya I use to pack the ammo.Now I have 5-8 rounds on me No pack, Im in 3-4 miles, big track knife on other side.Life was simple then

Yes but those are only the 6X fixed power and the glass is less than stellar.
