Scope choice for 30 Nosler

Finding a scope within your weight requiremnts is going to be difficult without considering the Leupold line of scopes. Probably my biggest hang ups with other manufactures is weight and turrets. I like a scope that weighs 22 oz or less and has either a locking or capped windage turret. Leupold is the only one that I have found that offers the features that I want within my weight requirement.

Interesting that the AMG was mentioned. I have been looking at it as well. I think it is a quality optic based on the glass I have seen in the Razor Gen 2s. FFP vs SFP is a whole debate on its own and both have their place. The biggest drawback I saw to it was if hunting starting a scope at 6x limits FOV significantly. All about the proposed use.

the vortex razor hd lh is 16oz in the 3-15x42 model, and 15oz in the 2-10x40 model they are $800-$1000. I my self am saving for a leupold vx 5hd 3-15x44 it is 20oz and they are $800-$1000, and the elevation dial has 20moa per rotaion , and zero lock. the windage dial is covered .It comes with free CDS. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Your weight limit is going to be "limiting". With that budget I'd be headed straight to the aisle marked ATACR or PMII .
I like both but don't really want a 30oz+ tank sitting on top of this sporter.

To all who recommend the VX6, I couldn't agree more. It fits the price, weight, and power specs. Almost everything I own is Leupold and I want to try someone else this time.

Keep us updated on the Zeiss V6. I'm interested to know more.

Yes, please update!

I looked at the AMG as well but I would really like around 3x on the low end. I don't want to handicap myself if I carry in thick woods. If they made that in a 3-15 or similar, that would be high in the running, even at that weight.

Does anyone have any experience with the swaro Z6 line?

I'm really enjoying all of the input. Thanks!

I don't know how far you are REALLY planning on shooting game, but an overlooked option is a 1 inch tube such as the Zeiss Conquest HD. In reality, it would serve most hunters well even at extended ranges for ethical shots.

I have a 1" conquest mc but I don't think they make 1" tubes for the conquest anymore.

!
I've seen on this forum guys having trouble with erector springs in the swaros and having to have warranty work done. I have no experience with one personally

As an update on the scope choice, I have an update.

I ordered a Zeiss Conquest V6 3-18x50 and Swarovski X5 3.5-18x50 since I was on the fence with both of them. They arrived on Tuesday night and I took them out right away to start comparing. Each afternoon and evening, I would spend time looking through them. On Saturday morning, I went to the range and was there 45 minutes before sunrise. I hung up Champion targets that were a black bear, whitetail deer and standard target that was off white with green and orange. These were hung at 300 yards. Shortly after hanging them up, I started comparing the scopes and could clearly see the black and white lane markers. At this time, when looking through into the trees you could make out branches and trunks clearly at different ranges. About 15 minutes before sunrise the sign that said 200 yards line was able to be read. The sign was 150 yards away and size of a small street sign and was black and white. The targets down range were visible at lower and starting to make out definite shapes and colors. At sunrise of 7 am, the targets were easily visible and when looking into trees the depth, shape and colors were really clear even when 400+ yards away. As luck would have it about 30 minutes after sunrise, I was able to spot some deer with my spotting scope. I picked up the scopes and thought the V6 was a little better. About 45 minutes after sunrise, another range member took a look through them and had the following feed back. His first reaction to the V6 was the Zeiss brings a lot of bright light. He thought the X5 had a little better resolution and this was based on looking into a hole where lots or rounds have struck and it seemed like there was a little more depth. He thought the clicks on both were pretty goodturret were extremely solid as well.

At the end of this all, I took the following into account. X5 seemed to have a little more resolution but was minimal. I did like the more audible sound of the turret clicks on the X5. For the V6, the image quality was excellent along with smaller turrets, shorter length and lighter weight. One other item was the V6 reticle(ZMOA) would lighten with changes in light which made it easier to use vs the X5 which was always black. I thought the X5 was a little brighter but the other individual thought the V6 was brighter. Even when I was looking through both of them, there were instances I thought each one was better than the other.

I wasn't able to put them on guns due to the return policy but Andy did a good review on the V6 as well. At the end of the day, I kept the V6 and the X5 was returned. They are both excellent scopes and I would have been happy with them both. Given that I could pick up a V6 close to $1000 cheaper due to a sale, it sealed the deal. I am going to be mounting the V6 later this week and getting it to the range to get it zeroed.

I have seen the March name, but that is as far as my familiarity goes. I am going to check them out.

338, thank you for that update. Very helpful! If you can, I would love to get another update after you have done some shooting. Particularly how repeatable the zero is and how well the the turrets work.

Will keep you updated. Want to get out this weekend and get it zeroed and start working with it more.

Have you had any more time with the scope? I am close to ordering something now. Essentially it is between the V6 3-18 or an ATACR 4-16. If the turrets on the Zeiss track and the glass is good, i'm probably done. The weight, size, and price are right.
If the build quality isn't there, I would consider the extra 1/2lb+ and $700 for the ATACR.
Then of course the question would be sfp 50mm vs ffp 42mm.

I have been traveling most of the last month plus and haven't spent a large amount of time at the range. I haven't put it through extensive paces but turrets were tracking when I have shot it but again that has been limited due to travel.
