Scope black after shot??? Ideas?

Hey everyone. I have a .300 prc I just had built. 24" carbon barrel. Omega 300 suppressor. Nightforce atacr 7-35x56 scope. I was on a deer hunt in musky chilly weather, maybe 33-35 degrees at first light. I shot at a deer and about half of the scope went black after the shot and took a minute or so to clear. Anyone have any ideas what can cause that?? Not an issue with eye relief 😅

Side note if anyone wants to come to Az and hunt Coues deer lemme know!
I'd love to hunt Coues deer in Az . I'm still elk hunting in Mt

Yes, your excited breathing caused the scope to fog up. It is that simple.

If you had detached your retina, it wouldn't just be your scope that was wonky. It would be your vision. As in everything.

Not sure where you are now, but a quick way to confirm this is to take your gun outside in similar conditions, set up like you were when you shot, huff and puff a few times through your mouth and nose and see if it happens again. My guess is it will.

Front lens cap folded down on recoil! Lol...or Kevin screwed with it because you're not shooting a 6.5 and a Maven.

A detached retina doesn't usually fix itself especially in a few minutes. If it was your eye everything you looked at after that would have that same black spot and that eye wouldn't be able to focus correctly. You did something to make it happen. Changed cheek weld so you weren't completely aligned behind the ocular, or you puffed some breath on the ocular which steamed it up temporarily. When I wear a ski-mask, I am prone to steaming up the ocular lens of my scope.

I've had a lens inside let loose and do exactly what the OP said, but it stayed that way. Seems you can't see through a lens that is turned oblique to your line of sight.
The same thing happened to me in the late 1980's. The scope had performed perfectly for about 6 months, and then one day while shooting, things went partially dark. After I moved the rifle around, I could see through it again, until I fired another shot and things looked weird. After removing the scope, I could place it near my ear and while shaking it, I could hear a very faint click from an internal lens moving. Warranty covered the replacement.

That is EXACTLY what happened to me with the exception of my scope being at least 15 years old at the time, I took it off and sent it to Oregon, it got back with everything fixed. Still shooting it today and that happened to me in the late 80's or early 90's.
