School me on copper bullets

I should add that as a cnc lathe turned bullet, consistency from one bullet to the next is exceptional. Also the copper that we use is very soft and performs basically the same from high vel impacts to low vel impacts. Finding and procuring this copper had been one of the most difficult aspects of making bullets. Not all coppers are the same. It would be much easier to use the common copper that others use and go with the attitude that it's good enough for everyone else. We got into this business because we could not find the bullets that do what we consider necessary for a good hunting bullet.

Our patented PDR drive bands design solves the problems that have always plagued copper bullets. Or bullets have the ability to seal the bore (loose or tight) without over pressure issues or poor accuracy issues. No copper fouling issues. No seating depth requirements because of drive bands location and an ultimately forgiving bullet for finding accuracy. We will always look for ways to improve. We are in our own class.

Steve could you post the min speeds for your 30 cal and .264 cal bullets to fully open . I have been a loyal user of Barnes for over 30 years and had great success but would love loading your Hammers in my hunting rifles . I would be loading 30-06 - 10 twist , 30 cal Patriot 10 twist , 6.5 Creed 8 twist and 30 cal Warbird 12 twist . largest critter is ELK and I try not to shoot over 650 yards . Not restricted by my ability , I can shoot . TYIA , Floyd

This is the only place that we let our opinion inflict our customers. We test all of our bullets to function properly down to 1800 fps. One or bullets show sub 1800 fps performance we stop testing. We think that 1800 fps is a good minimum vel for good quick humane kills. If anyoneit's comfortable with lower impact vel they can test the bullet down to where they are comfortable shooting animals.

With the big bore bullets in the Sledge Hammer design this is not the same. I would run a 45-70 impact down to 1300fps.

I've had great experiences with all but Nosler E Tips and Hammers. They can easily be dialed in for accurate handloads. I use IMR4350 for my 338WM and dialed in a 210gn Barnes TTSX that's an incredibly accurate freight train. The non tipped Barnes TSX is not bad but I prefer the tipped model for accuracy. In short, all of the monos I've experienced, petal into a death flower up to 2x diameter with very little loss of mass. Shown is a 130gn .277" Hornady GMX taken from a pronghorn shot at about 250yards.

Thank you Sir , I will buy and try your products , F.K.

Setting up a .300 WM primarily for elk @ up to 500 yards. In recent years I have used Hornady Eldx with good results but, due to new regulations in Commifornia banning lead ammo and not allowing ammo to be ordered I am faced with adapting to copper for this setup. I don't yet reload so need some suggestions regarding loaded ammo. Gun is Savage 111 lrh, Vx3 3.5x14x40, 26" barrel, 1 in 10 twist. I have also read copper has better weight retention than lead allowing use of lighter projectiles? Currently have .270wsm and .308 that are both good to 500 but maybe a little light for that distance. Tia fellas
Since you don't reload factory ammunition with Barnes bullet is the only way to go. 300 Weatherby Mag 200 grains.

Cutting Edge laser bullets but they are only available as bullets not loaded ammo. Expensive but well worth it. DRT results every time.

My question is do all the copper bullets hold together esp with high impact velocity so as to have high weight retention? My impression from a prior post was that Hammer bullets fragment. Does anyone have a picture of expanded Hammer bullets? I've seen plenty of expanded Barnes and they usually look like the GMX in post 34..

RockyMtnMT is best to answer the question about Hammer terminal effects (I quoted him to ping him). But I'll quote Hammer's website:

"The hollow point design, intended for big-game hunting application, initiates expansion upon impact, shedding petals immediately, with the remainder of the bullet staying intact with a blunt front for optimal wound channel."

Yes. We want the front of the bullet to shed. This keeps the bullet from slowing down to rapidly inside the animal reducing the wound channel. Also ensuring a wound channel all the way through the vital tissue or through a tough angle to reach the vitals.

I'll post a before and after pic with a recovered bullet from game When I can get to my computer.

Mr Steve,

I would like to ask you a question somewhat related to this topic. I will be doing a Vancouver Island Black Bear Hunt in May of 2020. I'm shooting a 300WM with a 26" barrel with a 1:10 twist. The distance is typically 200 yards or less. I'm thinking about using your 199gr Sledge Hammer. Do you feel this would an adequate bullet for boars potentially reaching 700lbs? Thank you.
