Sako 85 Longrange .338lm Eliminator3 RFI

which gun powder to use
for arctic winter ELR hunting with .338lm,
temperature range [-86F ... - 104F]
(-30°C...-40°C) ?
I just assumed you were using factory ammo because you sent those other options.
N570 would be my choice with 250 or 300gr Bergers. The Hornady 285gr ELD-M would be a consideration also.

hello all
i m from austria and hunting with an 338 lapua here . and as said before mostly hunting distance isnt worth to be called long range - so why use a 338 lapua mag if a 300 Wm can do the job ?
in my opinion it is because lets say 300 m shoot an deer you can do with 243 win when shot is placed perfect . not my style i think it gun and hunter should make sure animal dont suffer . in this way i think its worth to carry this big rifle up and use it .
is it worth it ? everybody should decide this on his own but in my opinion it is -
good luck to all and a good hunting season

Any tips to hunt with Sako 85 Longrange .338lm
which has the Burris Eliminator 3 laserscope ?

Has anybody experience about the
following bullets:

(1)
338 Lapua Mag Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail FMJBT
(2)
Lapua Naturalis .338 Lapua Magnum 15g

How long distance can one master with the
Burris Eliminator 3 laserscope ?

How does fog limit laser scope ?

What are alternatives for Lapua .338lm
cartridges ?

What distances to use to practice
long range hunting with this rifle ?
or
to adjust/tune it before hunting season ?
with
Lapua tactical-target-cartridge-
scenar-194g-300gr
or similar ?

Which self loading equipment to use
for .338lm ?

Has anybody long range hunted
in the European Union ?
with the EU gun passport ?
in which country ?
which game ?

Any tips/advice/experience
more than welcome !
There is an APP called Grammarly, check it out in the APP store. I use it regularly

I have had the eliminator iii and the eliminator iv.
The iv has a very better laser on it.
But they have a range limitation on the ballistics. It will give you a range on the iv way farther than you can get a hold dot
The eliminator 6 is out now and it doesn't have a range limit on it

are there any differences between those two to use them for ELR hunting in cold temperatures ?
Look, you need to find a mentor to take you hunting. Borrow one of their rifles the first few times you go to the range. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GO LONG RANGE HUNTING. Maybe one of your dad's friends can show you the ropes or something. This rifle is not for you and. Learn the basics before you spend all of your birthday money from you grandma on a rifle and scope. You wouldn't be able to afford the ammo for that rifle

I can tell you that fog definitely restricts the use of the rangefinder.. don't use it you will get false readings, cold affects them too..not the laser but it won't go on at all at -20.
Lapua Scenars 250 grain
Hornady 250 BTHP
Sierra Matchings 300
Hornady Atip 300 gr
All awesome in my .338 LM
Any Hornady, RCBS, Lyman reloading kit works and work well!
Practice at a distance YOU CAN SHOOT comfortably and hit consistently before moving out further

First off, I have lived and hunted in Europe for over 15 years. Let me start by saying that as far as hunting goes there is very little terrain suited for long range hunting that I have run into. The longest shot I pulled in Europe was about 600 mtrs. I also own a 338 Lapua and choose not to hunt with it as I have never encountered terrain where the weight to use ratio was worth schlepping it. To your questions:

While I have shot FMJ in my lapua, I would never use FMJ for hunting. You will never get bullet expansion you want when hunting.

Burris Elliminator. If I was shooting long range I would definitely not use a Burris. Like the other thread said, "way to many other good choices". My guns shooting 1000 mtrs plus all have Nightforce, Schmitt & Bender, Zeiss, Swarovski, Vortex scopes. One of the things I learned in my European hunting courses is that you throw money into glass first then the gun.

Distance to practice. As I learned in Africa you alway practice at the same distances you think you will be shooting or hunting. This varyies much to much by the area you are hunting. Most of the area I hunted in Germany for instance is dense forest. My hunting in England was on more open terrain but still way under 500 meters. In the alps I never had a shot over 400 meters.

Not sure what you mean by self loading.

As to other advice not sure where you are going with this thread. You need to be a bit more specific as to what game you will be going after and what country you will be trying to hunt in. Lots of regulations, gun/ammo limitations, and coordination that needs to be had. If you are using a guide or professional hunter they will have all the information you need along with advice. If you are trying to go on your own, you need to realize that there is almost no public land or public hunting areas in Europe.
how about Sweden, Norway or Finland
for ELR hunting ?

aren't there very large public hunting
areas in Sweden and Finland
owned by goverment ?

doesn't forestry cut large areas
which offer visibility to ELR hunting ?

arent' there mountains in Lappland
of Sweden/Finland/Norway
which offer visibility for ELR hunting ?

how about large marsh areas for ELR
in those countries - don't they offer
possibility ?

is it so that the European Firearms Pass
is valid also in Norway?

is .338lm ok/legal to hunt
brown bear ?
moose ?
other big game ?
&
in which distances does .338lm beat
.308 which is very popular there ?

Has anybody ELR hunted in the west Ukraine
where there are mountains and lower
risk to get shot by Russian snipers ?

thanks for all tips and advice!
