I know this is only a tidbit of your original dilemma, but for what it's worth: I decided to go with a Savage. I also put on a Stainless barrel (McGowan) that is on a black action with a black stock. I thought it may look bad, but I just wanted a shooter and not eye candy. I have to say, once I got it all put together, it doesn't look bad at all. In fact, I'm sure that anything on the receiving end at the distance I feel comfortable with shooting won't mind either.

I went with a 7mmRM. I decided it would do everything I needed.
