Restock Browning A-Bolt Short Action

Looks like I'm going to have to redo this due to improper mixture on MarineTex

Day 5: I can poke a dent into bedding w toothpick when checking for hard

Gonna get me some supplies
1) MarineTex
2) Brownells Spray Release Agent
3) Denatured Alcohol

Then I will go about it like you did CaptDru, and mix entire batch up at once so as to not botch mixing ratio

Am waiting until day 7 with hopes that this stuff would cure like concrete the longer it sets the better it gets but I'm thinking I am past the point of PASSING and into FAIL territory w results

If I can dent bedding w toothpick, recoil lug will be "denting"/compressing and stretching out its bed under recoil
FAIL

For the release agent, I used shoe polish. Works great. Also for under the barrel I used plumbers putty to fill in anything I didn't want the marine tex to get into.

I used boot wax, natural

Then olive oil the second time around, I'm tempted to used the olive oil again. Remember reading one guy being very pleased w results and using it exclusively. It went on real thick for me though.

Then I read a lot of citings where guys are saying use the Brownells spray and you will NEVER have a problem releasing a stock. Thats quite confidence inspiring to hear.

I was able to forcefully peel that marinetex out w a flathead screwdriver like it was a bad calus.

I reckon nothing holding my rifle together is allowed to be so lame.

This time around I am going to use DEVCON PLASTIC STEEL SYRINGE #62345

***Undecided on release agent

Will scuff composite stock w some 60grit or similar then prep all areas of stock w Denatured Alcohol.

The hard peeling out of material around recoil lug was right on the cusp of acceptable result for me, it being bolted down/held in place by action ad having a wall forward and back of it, it aint going anywhere

The chilling out and flexibility was a HARD NO, this stuff is supposed too be "hard as steel" and "thread tap"
There was no way my mixture was correct this stuff wasn't drill and tap compatible

Live and learn through experience
Or pay a pro

I'm a little nervous as to how I will be trimming my "hard as steel" access away at the end of the project.

I'm not going to set it up in the Bridgeport mill.

Maybe I can make a straight wall w the plumbers putty?
A FORM if you will

I know a dremel freehand is unlikely to come out straight

I need a straight edge wall at front of mag box and front of recoil lug stock partition

I can only imagine two strips of plumbers putty rolled into pins and put perpendicular across into stock bed, then trimming them as straight as humanly possible.

Jus use a razor blade to trim your putty in a straight line.
I use the release agent in the pro 2000? something kit from midway i think. And also shot the action n barrel a couple times with Hornady 1 Shot case lube. No issues.
Id abandon the screw with wingnut and use rubber surgical tubing to tie it in there. I guess to avoid maybe an uneven pressure thats more than the tubing can provide.

I honestly think youve well n truly overthought this and and now ur deep in ur head. But I get it! Lol
Ya got this man, jus use what happened the first time as a learning experience, adjust to fit what u know now and let er have it.
