Yes, the Remington group went to bankruptcy and has been broken up and sold off. Freedom Group IMHO really messed up. I was a huge fan of AAC suppressors under Kevin Brittingham's ownership but, since then their product R&D has been underwhelming and really opened the door for SilencerCo to grow to a major manufacturer which later saw some break-up with two of their designers going their own way and starting their own brands.
If you can find a gently used Remington Custom rifle in the $1,000~1,250 range, I'd be tempted IF it was a caliber and format I wanted.
In today's production in the ~$1,000~1,500 range, I'd be seriously tempted by a Winchester Model 70.
The Kelby Koda in 6.5CM at $2500 retail is really tempting me but, it's not primary hunting caliber so hopefully, they will add some additional options in the future. A 7SAUM would probably get me to break my piggy bank and collect spare change to have one sent my way. It is a lot of rifle for $2,500 IMHO. That said, with patience, you can often turn up a good custom hunting rifle for similar money if you are patient.
