Remington 700 picks and choses when to fire

Wow. A lot of great reply's. They're handloads. I had the gun at a gunsmith rebar sling it 80 rounds ago. Had him clean and check firing pin 150 rounds ago. He never changed anything.

I will pull it apart and clean it to see if that helps. I will also order a new spring and replace that as well.
For one thing, this thread was featured in a promo email this morning from Len, so it's getting a lot of attention.

Ok at first you said you had 5000 rounds on it, Which may be true, But now you say it was re-barreled 150 rds ago, I would check HEADSPACE, Long headspace will cause misfires due to the firing pin losing it's inertia as it drives the case forward causing light strikes.
That's a good point as well. I'll check the fired brass from the new chamber compared to the old chamber brass.

Chester started the thread with his Rem SA .308 with 5000 rds through it. Then Sendero chimed in with his 7mm/300 that had recently been rebarreled. Confusing. Sendero should have started a new thread. The SA 308 ACTION has 5000rds on it.
Yes and Chester has just said it was re-barreled 150 rounds ago, Or 80 rounds ago?

Check Rebar Sling post!

BTW, when you disassemble the bolt, go to local hardware store and buy a hitch pin like this, right diameter to fit into slot so you just snap this onto bolt body and the flat side will lock into place in the slot. I am sure NONE of you had a dime flying around your bench or maybe just I am "lucky" to enjoy that scenario. They come in every size so you can find one.

Everyone should own a set of 308 gauges, They are good for so many calibers.
Then, ya' have to know how to use 'um correctly. That's gettin' fairly complicated by the average LRH poster. It could create another thread that's 50+ posts! Correction: 60+ posts. It could and would get into ground and certified steel gages verses brass (new, once fired in another chamber, ect) with tape on the base! Remove the ejector, or,,,, no need to remove the ejector? There are days it never seems to end!

I have a Remington 700 308. Has about 5000 rounds on the action. Just recently about every 50 rounds it will fail to fire. I will eject the round and there will be a firing pin imprint on the primer that seems the same as all of the other fired rounds. I'll put the round back in the gun and it will fire. Could this be a firing pin issue or a spring issue? Or both? Thank I'm advance for your knowledge.

Merry Christmas
Your on it. One or both. Take a good look. I've had same issue.

Just measured the shoulder on brass fired on the old barrel and the new barrel and they're identical. Measured using the gauge that whidden supplies with their dies. Not sore if it takes a couple firings to reach full headspace but the shoulders didn't change after one. Re barrel was done by the same gunsmith for both barrels.
