Having a bit of trouble with these. In less than 40 rounds I've had four non fires and at least double that where I need to do a second hammer drop to get it to fire. Of the four non-fires the primer is indented just as much as a fired case. Seems the primer is dead. First I've used Rem primers and just my luck I picked up another brick of them last week. Anyone else have same experience with these?

Rem 9 1/2M is my least favorite of all the primers I use (CCI, Federal, WLRM). However, with my .300 WSM and 215 Berger, and .257 WBY and 145 Black Hole have been excellent.

Has your seating process changed? Primer seating that is. They should be a touch below the headstamp face of the cartridge. Sitting high will rob the primer of the strike and often cause mis-fires.

Just a thought. Same as what 243 said really. I am just defining fully seated. .005" is the often quoted number. How to measure is less clear.

Other ideas are also valid.

It's on an encore. I have always used Fed 210 or 215's without a problem. Using it at muzzleloader and 209's never had an issue. Nothing until I started using the Rem 9 1/2 mag.
Only reason I have the Rems are the lgs had them in stock every time I go there so I figured WTH may as well grab them

No. I use only the rcbs universal hand primer. And of all the other cartridges I have loaded never a problem until these Rem 9 1/2 mag. I've always used Fed primers until I couldn't find them anymore
I load 22-250 .06 size case and RUM cases.
This particular cartridge with the issues is 460 S&W in encore rifle.

Check your headspace. Sometimes, when a round chambers too deeply, the pin can't do its job because the primer is too far away. Mike Bellm has tools for this and describes the process in a helpful way.
In a nutshell, check the depth of the case head from the breech of your barrel, then check the space from the breech to the breech block on the frame. Add those and you have your headspace measurement. If it is too much, the firing pin won't strike the primer deeply enough to mash the compound against the anvil. It is frustrating, but with some measurements, you can prevent this in the future.

Maybe there was a reason their in stock? Hmmm...

I used the rems mag back in the mid 2000 and they worked for me. I switched when other loaders told me cci and feds were better. Also mentioned that the wlr was hotter? Maybe they are somehow cutting back on the styphnate used to make the spark and some are not getting enough of the material?? I can see some bright engineers thinking to much on a better mouse trap.

I would suggest putting them in another cartridge with a different rifle and see if they go boom? Might just have an ignition problem with them and your encore?
