Reloder-16 loads

Been shooting 44.5 grains of it in my 6.5 Creedmoor.
2809 out of my little 20" Tikka with a 135 berger classic hunter. So far has been temp stable from 50 degrees to 5 degrees, maybe colder. Was a vast improvement from a velocity perspective over the Ramshot powder I was using, almost 150fps with comparable charges. I haven't shot one hole groups with that particular load, but it is still 1/2 MOA at a hundred and a little better further out.

Tonight I fired some RL16 through my custom 260 Remington, with the 120gr Nosler BT

Rifle : Defiance Machine action, 23" 1:8 twist Pacnor, McMillan Edge stock
Load : 120gr NBT @ 2.78" OAL (.030" off lands), Lapua brass, F210M primer. Alliant RL16 powder

[FONT=&quot]Speeds measured with Labradar Doppler radar. All 7 shots went into 0.77moa @ 100y. Might try a bit more powder next time out, no pressure signs at 44.0grs (Alliant max load on their site)

I have some RL16 loaded up for an OCW test this weekend in a 6.5 Creedmoor I've seen some write ups on it that says it's very temp stable. And seems to get excellent velocity. I can't recall off the top of my head where I found the article, but the author compared its temp stability to H4350 and RL16 was better.

Cleveland,
Any updates on how the RL16 did for you? speed, groups, the good bad and ugly?
Thanks

I think it turned out very well for my first OCW. Did not chronograph due to not trusting my old chronograph. Will be ordering magnetospeed soon. All five powder charges came in sub moa. I stopped pretty shy of listed max though. Will be doing 43-43.6 grains next weekend to look for a higher node. All loads were 140 Sierra Gamekings .020" off the lands.

I loaded four with 42 grains to adjust scope and I think it actually ended up being the center of a node from 41.8-42.1. Was very tight until I shanked the fourth shot, should have stopped at three lol. I did not keep that targe, but first three rounds and that charge weight came in at sub 1/2" with fourth round opening up to .6-.7. I believe this powder may be a winner.

I've only run 9 different loads through my 6.5CM, but was overly caffeinated, so I'm going to redue them, hopefully this weekend. Heres my target with data though.

My gun seems to shoot fast with any load, so your velocity might not be the same.

Case measurements/comments:
41.0 fired case length 1.907, Base diameter .471, Neck diameter .295
42.2 fired case length 1.9075, Base diameter .471, Neck diameter .295
43.1 fired case length 1.908, base diameter .4715, neck diameter .295
43.3 fired case length 1.909, base diameter .472, neck diameter .2955

Had .001 - .0015 cratered primers on the 43.3 load and a couple of cratered primers on the 42.2, .0005 - .001.
On factory Nosler Match 140 grains, I get 1 out of 3 or 4 that have .0005 to .001 cratering.
Jut my gun I guess as there are no other signs or issues.
