Recommendations for shooting sticks?

I'm looking at and elk hunt and possible an Africa hunt in the next couple years.

Anyone care to share their recommendations and experiences with shooting sticks.

Figure something light enough to hike with, and with a design thats not going to be a problem when i need it to perform.

Planning to get some and start practicing shooting off sticks.

If you want sticks to shoot from while standing…..I got nothing.
But, if 42 or so inches at the pivot point is sufficient…..helpful if shooting down a steep grade or in relatively tall brush. We made our own over 20 years ago.

Ours are from 1/2" fiberglass rod, with the fibers running linear in the rod ……meaning no fiberglass fuzz to deal with. They are plenty stiff to use as walking sticks….primarily for balance assist when crossing logs, ect., loose footing, or in steep terrain. I put rubber chair leg covers on them to protect the ends and give a larger footprint as help on a slick, flat surface!

We've used them on a few shots beyond 400 yards…..seemed to work pretty well! memtb

I have a few different solutions - like home made 32" sticks, quick-stix for trecking poles.

Picked up a snipe-pod made by Kramer Design Corp recently. It's not my favorite, but fills a niche as it's very portable and lightweight (8oz)

I have Primos Trigger Stick Gen 2. Bought back in 20014. Used it to practice. Host/guide provided the "tripod" sticks in S. Africa.
Many improvements since then. I added a ball head and I can add an attachments to hold my rifle if I want.

These are expensive, but they provide really good support on both the front and rear of the rifle. Used them in Africa last year and they were great. Use them around the farm all the time to deal with pests. Like I said, not cheap, but if I lost mine today, I'd order a new set ASAP. These really work best when standing, which is what you will most likely be doing in Africa.

I agree that this type of stick is one of the best for standing shots, however, I would recommend the Rudolph version as they are a bit lighter and about half the price.

These are the sticks that I use when spot and stalk hunting exotics in TX and I plan on taking them with me when I go to Africa in a couple of years.
