Recommendation for tripod for rifle rest and spotting scope?

Well which ever tripod you end up with, my experience has been to always rely on camlock devices on legs rather than screw tight. All screw type latching I have ever experience has a tendency to slip.

The screw lock design on the units I have used (Vortex Radian, and Fat Boy) did not slip, the cam lock on the BOG's I have used did slip. West Texas dust is hell on all of them, so far the Fat Boy has held up the best for me.

BOG Death grip is heavy.

It is, and to add to that the clamp-style mounts are not stable at all unless your stock is shaped like a 2X4. Clamping a flat surface to a curved surface results in very narrow contact that allows for a lot of up and down movement.

I have a 2 vets tripod with an RRS30 head and I also changed out the clamp head on my Bog Pod Deathgrip to a No Fox Given head. I use the 2-vets when hiking around and the Bog Pod when stand/field hunting. Arca on a few guns and a tac table for the rest.

The kit from 2 vets is fairly priced and high quality. I have been very pleased with it.

I too have a BOG Deathgrip (yes it is heavier than a similar carbon tripod) and I converted it from the "clamp" version head to a ball-head mount. I am not concerned about the weight as I use my tripod for supporting various rifles used for everything from shooting prairie dogs to large game. I don't pack-in to my hunts so the added weight is not a concern for me - I like the added weight of this tripod as it aids in stability. It has worked for my intended purposes...to each their own I suppose.

If I want to keep it around $250 (or less if it makes sense) for tripod, head and shooting saddle, what would you guys pick? Based on posts so far I see these candidates, and the BOG looks like the most bang for the buck barring some eBay deal or sale I haven't found (and assuming the clamp fits my gun OK).

Not sure if Botach.com is legit or not for the Vanguard but seems a good value if it is.

As I alluded to, I'm a believer in the BOG. The improvement I made by adding the ball-head gives more movement and adjust capability versus the stock setup. I went with the aluminum legged version as I wasn't concerned with the weight.

Depends on your end use. If carrying in for a hunt, bog is very heavy and a little more difficult to adjust.

If using for just shooting it PD's it will be fine. I have a buddy that uses it for his kids in a box blind.

For best accuracy, don't use the hog saddle. It is better than nothing but the arca rail and ball
Head are like shooting off a bench. I was amazed when I tried a bog with saddle and then tried the 2vets. Honestly night and day differences.

Best about amazon if you are prime it is free returns and if you wait on it and look around, should be able to get aluminum one for $110 or
CF one for $149.

They are heavy but I leave one in my blind and one in my elevated stand and I do carry the third one but they do work well

With tripods a few things to think about.

Bigger the legs more sturdier to shoot off of. Bigger the heavier. The head is the most important part, pan heads are better for glassing, not as good for shooting. Ball heads best for shooting. If you get a ball head make sure it has the pan knob feature, then you can glass left and right smoothly
