Question for those that take large game at 300 to 600 yrds

Honestly I run a lot of higher power magnification scopes for about 3 reasons. 2.5x25 4x30 ext.
1- I typically don't need to pack a spotting scope
2- the ability to zoom in if needed (not often)
3- load development, and target practice at high power.

To answer your question I typically don't shoot game above 15 power, and at 300-600 I'd probably be in the 8-15 range. I typically don't go past 18-20 on long range shots hunting due to it's harder to see impacts with recoil. In case of a follow up shot. I hunt with magnums, so it's harder to see impacts on high power than a 6.5 creedmore.

To be honest I think a 15 power scope is about as much power as a guy needs hunting even to 1000, but it all individual preference.

The scope is 3.5-10. It stays on 3.5 until a longer shot is required, with adequate time to adjust the power…..at which time it goes all the way to 10X. memtb
Yep. Acquire target on lower power and turn up as needed. A good tip is not to be too up in power on live game because it is very easy to lose them in the FOV after the impact. Learned through experience.
