Question about original Remington 260 rifles

I, too, had the first run of VLS in 260 REM and 22-250, both bought together. Mine was 9" twist, 24" long barrel. Shot extremely well, only sold it to help fund a VSSF II buy to turn into a switch barrel set-up. Which I still have in 260AI, 6.5x47 & 22-250AI.

Cheers.

I used to shoot that bullet for varmints......then they stopped making them. That really torqued my cookies.
i was unhappy with sierra also as discontinued several bullets i love and the 85gr was 1 of them. not sure which forum it was, but did send someone the last 500+ i had left for the grendel (shot several in my pre64 264wm). they also discontinued my 135gr 40/10mm, 135gr hpbt .308's, 90gr fmj's in .243 and countless more. i was able to capitalize on some bullets before all gone.

when i got my 260rem, i made sure it had an 8. with newer production rifles i don't have a clue why they (manufacturers) don't increase the twist of the older rifles like the 264wm, 243win and the .224cals also as many shoot heavier bullets thru them. also made sure my 264wm had a 7.5 twist also. what would be a great thing for win, rem and so on is to be able to have a custom twist so it'll be an "all factory rifle". for now it'll just be custom i guess!

We had the Remington 700 in .260 in the initial years of its birth for our response team sharpshooter rifle. It was a 9 twist ( at least our ERT rifles). I want to say based on my memory, it was around 1997. We started using them in 1998 I believe.

If Remington would have started with a 1:8 twist and then provided more factory support, the .260 would have been way more successful. The 6.5 Creedmore is less of a cartridge in many ways, yet it put kill shot on the .260 Remington. Marketing and hype often defeat reality.

I lament as a big .260 Remington and .260 AI supporter. I also chose Keymod over M-lock and still believe it is a superior mounting system.

I have to admit the 260AI is on my radar. I have a Remington Varmint 308 that I have considered putting a 260AI barrel on.
